New Camaro Color- Brake Dust Black

Is anyone else seeing brake dust piling up on the nice new Silver 2SS paint job? I've cleaned/washed my car atleast 5 times already (1600 miles), and everytime I get to the area on the sheet metal that is behing the wheel, quite a bit of black comes off. The Silver painted rims look the same. Now they still look silver to the untrained eye, but I always toss out terry-cloth cotton towel after every cleaning now. I use a brush I got from the Harley dealer for the rims- helps get the inside part of the rim real good.

I would have placed this in the cleaning forum but felt it was more of a brake issue. I've never had a car shed dust like this.

Brembo brakes do that. Have you ever had a car with rotors/calipers this big? My STi's rims were ALWAYS dirty.

Nope, biggest rim/brake combo so far. I was hoping it would settle down after the brakes get broken in. Makes me nervous seeing that much brake dust on the new paint job.

I doubt brake dust is going to effect the paint. I had some autox sessions with the STi (similar brake system) that got everywhere many times and never did a thing. As long as you wash it carefully it should come right off.

I'd like to but we're having our grandsons 2yr birthday party that day, then heading out to Colorado for a week. Should be a cool event. Have fun and take pix.

If you have ever noticed when you see a porsche the wheels are brown, they get brake dust very easily

From how your explaining it, that is the exact color I was hoping for GM to bring out on the camaro

I get a lot of dust on my back wheels and hardly any on the front. I find that odd, should be the other way around.

Yeah, a bit too much brake action my friend, I know that combo will build dust more than the avg. but not to the point where you should be so shaken up by it. Either that or your breaks need be broken into. It should wear in a while, if it doesn't than you are riding hell on those brakes.

Try wiping the wheels down with a dryer sheet like cling free. Less static=less crap sticking to the wheels.

I do alot of driving in my V-6 and I get a lot of brake dust build up on my wheels as well. My thing is it is on the back rims not the front which I found really odd, my front rims are not as bad as my back when it come to brake dust

Switch out the pads for something else. The srt8 guys have brembos also and suffer from the same issues. They switch out the pads for something different and solve the dust issues.
