20% off killing trade value?

I have a 2013 ZL1. It has a sunroof, polished wheels new tires all fluids changed, and supercharger recall completed. My car has about 19700 miles on it. I found a 2015 that I liked with recaros and optional wheels. MSRP of the car was a little over 65k and with the 20% off they were going to let it go for about 53k. I have looked at NADA and KBB for the book value and stuff on my car, but the dealership only offered me 30k for my car.
I think this is pretty low, as I paid quite a bit more for my car in the middle of 2013, but is this going to be the trend now, or do you think that trade in will go up when this sale is off? I know it is all about the difference in price as opposed to just sale price and trade in value, but still 30k....

Most dealers can buy a 13' ZL1 for around 35k at dealer auctions right now.....

Wow what an eye opener. I've seen this before where the new cars were selling for less than the used cars (2008). This is a buyer's market with the huge discounts. If it were me I'd hang on to the car for awhile or try to find a sympathetic trade with a kind dealer. IMO you'd be better off waiting until the discounts are over.

Yeah, I am def going to wait before I would trade. I figured trade would be low, but I never thought it would be that low.

30k is redicualously low but dealers love to do that. Just sell it on ebay. cars very rarely sell for lower than 40k there.

the lowest sold car in the last 30day is 39,700 and one with more miles than yours for 43k.

dealers and trade is always a slippery slope. I had a dealer offer me $3500 trade on a car I sold outright for 11k. (2001 mustang GT in 2008)

bottom line is the 20% hurting resale right now absolutly. it is only around until jan 2nd though. anytime the price of something new drops by that much it will always impact resale.

trading a car like this into a dealer is always finacially stupid.

I agree with you it is all about the trade difference. While 30k isn't great. Would 45k and MSRP make you feel any better if the difference are the same?

Nope, that wouldn't make me feel any better. I just figured if I could get a decent trade in and go to a MY 15 for 20% off it wouldn't be bad. I am going to keep her for a while. Just got my janetty 75rwhp kit in the mail today. Just thought I would post my experience. I only talked to one dealer, but I would assume that is the trend right now.

Personally I think you should buy the wheels and a custom set of Recaros for your car. No need to take a bath for what is basically the same platform. (Minus rear end redesign)

I would love to get a set of recaros for it. I have a set of race star wheels for it for track days.

Recaros will set you back 4500.00 plus tax. (Check with Maureen at Rodgers) I know because I just installed them in my '12. Love them and money well spent. They are plug and play with a little software update (free) for the seat heaters.

As has been said, get the Recaros and wheels and keep driving it. No reason to take a bath when it's a ZL1 you still want!

I bought mine last year 68K out the door. only 1 month later I thougth I wanted the C7 corvette instead, The dealer offered me 50K for my car!. I could still hear his words when I first bought the car, Eric this Zl1 will holds its value. Dude car salesman are Not your buddy's, they are there for one reason only and that's to turn and burn. They are not out to help anyone except themselves. If you decide to get the 2015, the moment you do, it is worth 20K less. So keep that in mind when you make your deal with them.

Yeah, it's gotten even worse. I looked seriously at Z/28's a couple months ago but I'd need to sell the ZL1. I have 6000 miles and was looking at about $4.25 a mile in depreciation. And, I saw 2 IOM covertible ZL1's on Autotrader priced lower than I wanted to get for mine so, no sale.
