2010 SS - Bucking, runs like crap at WOT
Hi all,
Second owner of a 2010 SS, Manual Shift. ~50k on the odometer. Car has been great for the past year I've owned it, took it to the track last month and really had a blast taking the car out through the twists and turns of the local roadcourse. About three weeks after that road course event, I'm noticing that the car is misfiring, or bucking, running rough. It seems like it only does this when it is warmed up, and only when under heavy throttle. It's so bad it feels like you're riding a bull. Bucking forwards and backwards in my seat, and downshifting/upshifting doesn't help. Gentle gas pedal sometimes helps, or flooring it also sometimes clears the issue, for a little while (maybe for 30 seconds), but it will return. Here's the kicker: NO CODES. Nothing. The idiot computer thinks everything is fine. I can't believe it's not throwing a code. Cleaned out the K&N filter / intake, really the only modification to the car, to no avail. Thoughts? |

OK, thanks... to be clear, my little orange Actron OBDII scanner won't pick that up? (When I used it, it says everything is fine).

Check for vacuum leaks, especially where the intake tube is mounted to the throttlebody and clean the maf sensor. The clamps on aftermarket intakes are known to loosen after a while, make sure all the connections are tight.

TB? Without a Code, hard to decipher without actually being in front of your car.

Sounds like it could be wire but without a scanner picking up a code you are just shooting in the dark.

Since there is no code to go on and we're all just shooting in the dark at the moment, I'm gonna suggest the MAF is cooked. I cooked mine on the Grand Prix because eventually it got a coating of oil from the K&N which killed it. They will tell you that you over oiled it but I didn't. You can try to clean it with some throttle body cleaner and maybe it'll still be good. Otherwise, I'd move into the sparkplug/wire realm but that should cause a misfire and code.. I too am very surprised the check engine light isn't on.
