How to replace front seat
The stock z28 is a great seat, but too big for my hips when driving on the track. I want to replace it with Recaro Profi seats that fits me perfectly.
Anyone knows how to bypass the seat airbag and seat belt warning lights? THANKS!! |

I currently have the Recaro seats (powered; actually sits lower than manual Z/28 Recaros by about an inch), but I am having issues at the track. The belt openings are too low on the seat, so my shoulders are a bit compressed. The seat is also sitting way too high; I have the feeling of racing with an SUV seat. FYI, I am currently using the seats along with Schroth Rallye 3 ASM harness and a HANS device.
Is there any solution where I can have a harness bar at the track day, but easily remove it once I'm done? I hate the idea of effectively canceling the rear seats. Regarding airbag, there are small simulators sold on ebay for $15 or less. You can also simply put 3K Ohm resistor on the circuit to fool it (so the error light would not light up, and the rest of the airbags would still work). You would also need to carry the OEM seat belt receptor and position sensor, if any, to the new seat. Position sensor would only need to be connected. It normally signals only if the seat is too close to the steering wheel, but your race seat set-up will probably never be too close anyway.

Thank You!
I noted a difference between the driver seat and the passenger seat. There is a small control box under the passenger seat and none under the driver seat. Anyone knows what's it's purpose? The passenger seat seems easy to do - the seat can be disassembled and the original track can be used with the seat belt bracket and the harnesses. Have not figured the driver side yet since the seat track on one side has a welded bracket. |

I am 6' tall and am cramped when wearing helmet in my son's 2012 SS. His is the stock, motorized seat. I recently purchased a 2015 Z28 and I'm hearing that the stock manual Recaro seat affords less headroom than the motorized seats of the SS.If so, I'm gonna have a problem. I've also heard that the motorized version of the Recaro sport seat sits lower than the manual version. Can folks confirm this? If true, is it easy to swap out the manual seat for the motorized one? Also, where to buy the motorized Recaro? Thanks!

If your son's SS does not have a sunroof and yet you don't have enough headroom, you might need to consider aftermarket setups. That will also mean you'll have to deal with sensors and airbags, but it probably beats driving your own car cramped.

Thx x25. It's weird, the Chevy website specs say that the headroom on the z28 is 37.4". Must be a mistake. Anyway, I'm off to purchase a helmet tomorrow and we'll see if I can fit in the car. The SS headroom was tight, but manageable with the helmet on. If the Zs headroom is indeed 37.4" as Chevy says, I should be ok. Otherwise, motorized Recaro here I come.

My brother's Viper GTS' seats came with spacers, which let us gain another 1" once we removed; I wish it was that easy with the Camaros : )
