2012 ZL1 Exhaust on a 2011 1SS
Does anyone know if I can swamp out my current stock exhaust for a 2012 stock Exhaust and still pass smog here in California?

if you put an exhaust system on your car that is completely the same as a completely stock 2012 SS then theres no reason it shouldnt pass smog in any state.

Shorties - OK
Long Tubes - NOT OK, you will not pass because you have to remove the stock cats and that is a no-no in CA. You will fail the visual inspection. If you add shorties, you don't have to touch the cats, and most shorties are CARB legal, you'll be fine. As for the catback, you can do whatever you want after the cats - even go straight pipe. Should pass smog as long as you're not popping codes. |

the stock ZL1 pipes an cats should be legal. if it were my car i would find out which high-flow cats were CA legal cause a boosted car can have big power benefits to no or high flow cats. i think solo and or JBA make CA legal high flow cats

If you want to stay legal just do the cat-back. If you want headers, smog then put longtubes on after. Shorties do gain a little hp, but for the money and install you're going to end up wishing you did longtube headers, unless you're planning to turbo your car down the road.

When you go shorties and don't do cats, the gain is minimal for sure. When you do shorties and hfc's, you're up there with lt's... |
