Wouldn't you be a little pi**
I just returned from having my car dynoed with a couple of buddies of mine. Same dyno, same setups and within a half hour of the first 2ss manual. He was bone stock. His best pull- 383 hp
Mine was next 1ss manual Hennessy CAI and QTP cutouts. My best 384 hp. Um somethings funny here. I spent what $700 for 1 hp. And just to satisfy my curiosity I did 3 pulls with the cutout open vs 3 with them closed. ya know what the difference was..........0 zero 0. I paid $300 for sound. The best pull I had all day was with the cutouts 1/2 open. Now from past experiance this is all I'm going to say on the matter but Please research everything you buy to the max. Forget about name brands. Unfortunately I purchased my CAI before the test results came back on the group. But come on the proof is in the pudding as they say. $700 wasted dollars. :mad0 259::(:(:( |

383 stock is very strong. I think that may be the highest stock I have seen. No two cars
are alike, but yeah, I would be pissed. Maybe the intake needs a tune, but that is of course more money. |

That's the problem with alot of the HP gains marketing, it's all BS!
Unsubstantiated BS. Same thing with "handling" or suspension packages, 95% of those are usubstantiated BS claims also! Sorry!

I take it you never got a baseline of yours before the mods?

I was just going to ask him that. What was the before at stock and after with the mods? This is exactly why I'm afraid of modding for performance. Spend thousands of dollars on end and just about all claims are false or way over exaggerated.

I see nothing false or over-rated here.
Almost every STOCK SS Camaro is putting down 360-370RWHP. SO, the OP paid for a good improvement over stock. Nothing to be mad about. It just sucks that the other guy just so happened to get one of the blessed motors that comes out making more than average stock. OP didnt waste any money.... He just didnt get as lucky as the other guy.

well even if he had close numbers it could have improved low end tq and hp and not increased over all hp. screw peak hp numbers.

I'll just throw some possibilities: maybe his is more broken in. I've heard some people here stating that their car seemed to improve all the way up to 8,000 miles. Or maybe he was running w/ better gas. But more likely is what was stated above - the cars don't all seem to have -exactly- the same hp. But it isn't all about hp - are you happier w/ your modded sound?

He said he made NO hp with the cut out open vs closed. That indicates its not increasing exhaust flow. What he needs is some long tube headers and high flow cats. That along with his intake would put him over 400 rwhp. |

Go race your buddy, see what happens.
We have a dyno at our shop and Im always telling customers who only care about a peak number that a dyno is a tool to measure improvement and tune vehicles with. I know you feel like it all the same deal all around but it's not. The chassis dyno actually takes torque readings and converts them to HP. Look at the whole graph and surely you will see some improvement somewhere. |
