Oil change question???
I was told today by a Royal Purple rep today that I should change my oil twice before putting Royal Purple in my car.
He said "Those cars have break in oil in them. You don't want any of that mixing with the Royal Purple. I suggest you chage your oil two times before you put Royal Purple in." Has anyone herd of anything like this. I just have a hard time beleiving it.

no experience using Royal Purple. "break-in oil"? that's a new one, sounds like a marketing ploy. Although, I changed my oil at 400 miles anyway (only mobil 1 synthetic of course).

Take care of your child and use mobile 1. I changed my baby at 600 miles and plan on changing it again around 3000.

1000 miles on her now Did a oil change at 500 with Mobil 1 Car isnt broke in yet no changes in runnability yet, she hasnt woke up yet. I just like to follow the manufacture suggestions. Not triing to disagree with you Put what you want in your car. Hope it works well for you.

J Lambert, if the car in your avatar is your, your car came from the factory with Mobil 1 in it, not break in oil, which is a old wives tale. We don't know how many miles you have on it now, but most of us have changed it at about 1000 miles, then start your normal oil change schedule. and stick with MOBIL 1 and good quality filters and you can't go wrong.

Royal Purple... What's the benefit here? Haven't countless studies proven that oil is oil is oil. I've never heard of a well maintained engine blowing because of the oil brand.
Drive a car with Mobil 1 and a car with Supertech (Walmart's oil brand) and you won't be able to tell which is which. You guys think the Mobil 1 car will last longer??? |

So I will admit this right out ... I wouldn't know the difference regarding oil type, but will say that for the first time in my long car buying life, I changed the oil in my current 10 year old car every 3,000 miles mostly and every now and then at 5,000.
In the early days it was all with the dealer and whatever oil they put in, then after maybe 7-8 years mostly local auto shops. Anyway, I now have over 260,000 miles on this baby, the most I have ever gotten a car to. Not sure if it was my commitment to changing the oil that helped or that is was a Honda, but ... I will surely do the same with my Camaro and find out. That said, I am intrigued in this oil type debate ...
