Dumb deer ran into my car
Driving home last night after dinner and her a THUD on what sounded like my door. Filed a police report, reported it to insurance, dropping it off Monday afternoon for estimate/repair. Will be driving a rental until fixed.
Bad way to start a weekend. Especially when you have a $1,000 comprehensive deductible. Anything I should tell the shop/insurance company before or when I drop it off? Such as no cheaping-out on parts? |

Ugh, how annoying... Although I must say, aside from the huge dents, those last two pics look incredible

Rutting season is here, deer are getting all "horned" up, they have been very active out in the streets here in my town in Central Jersey... Sorry about the damage, while it sucks it looks like your door was saved and it is limited to the rear quarter panel. Good luck.

Are there "bad" times of the day/night to drive with the deer active? I mean, do they prefer to sleep in the day and come out when it is dark, or anything? I'm looking for the best time to go for joyrides and reduce the risk of hitting one.

Very sorry to hear - reminds me of the nightmare I had with my 1997 Z-28. Less than 3 weeks old and I hit a deer with it. Took it to the shop with the best reputation and ended up getting the car painted by them 4 times before they got it right. Silver is very very difficult to match so find a shop that really knows what they are doing - and the dealers collision shops are usually not the best to consider. As well, tell them to do thier best job at not replacing the quarter panel - you dont want them cutting out and replacing body panels unless absolutely necessary.

Well the good new in all this (as if there was any!) is at least it wasn`t a head on shot (real pricey repairs) and that side dent should be an easy fix with no quarter panel replacement.

It definitely missed the door. There are about 3 different spots that have pretty fine surface scratches. I have no idea what happened to the deer actually. It happened in the dark and so fast. Deer disappeared though.

both not true. Its a comprehensive claim. it doesnt really matter what it is that caused the damage. Deer, shopping cart, some threw a dodgeball really hard, etc... it doesnt matter. You don't have to prove anything except that there is damage. You are claiming against your own insurance and why would you have a police report? If I hit a deer, I would not call the police unless the deer was lying there dying and needed put down. I had some damage caused the front of my car when a piece of steel flew up off the road and hit the car. I didn't have to "prove" anything, just an explaination and it was fixed, no questions asked. And they did a great job at matching the silver!
Good luck and sorry.. I HATE DEER! |
