Clear Bra coverage?
Hey folks,
Well I had the Camaro done this past Wednesday and I love it I would post pics but to tell you the truth It would be pointless as I have a difficult time picking up the seam lines by the naked eye The Kit Sean, my Installer used covered: the rocker panels, 4 rear tire 1/4 panels (rear 1/4s went all the up to the side reflectors!! both side mirrors, door handle cups (custom cut these). My question was concerning the front clip... it covered all but the lower side of the bottom grill piece. the outer sides where covered but the middle portion was not. Is this common not to cover this? I paid $475 out the door and Sean has been doing this for 26 years so after he did my Tint I felt very comfortable having him do the Clear bra as well. He told me that with other kits most covered this area in different makes and models. The CAD package that he was using may have to be altered in the future. Also said that If I wanted to he would custom cut a piece for me. Just wondering if this area is not normally covered? Thanks |

I just had mine custom cut also. What brand did you go with? I did complete front bumper and both side mirrors. I did want a line across my painted black stripes.

Susan I guess I need to know a little more of what area you are talking about. The "lower side of the bottom grill piece" is a little confusing. If its the bottom of the front bumper... in the center yes there is a piece for that. Not sure why this wouldnt be covered. You got a VERY good price on that... in fact I am nto sure how he really made any money on your install. Well I am taking it that you got the hood and fenders done along with the lights.
By the way I am sure your installer meant he has been doing tint for 26 years. Paint protection film has not been out that long. The earliest I have heard of it being used was the mid 90s... this film was originally used by the millitary over in the Iraq for protecting helicopter rotors and aircraft from sand. It took a while but someone finally figured out it could be used on vehicles. So the mid 90s is when it was first being used and it was all custom cutting... which almost killed the industry since nearly all of the installers were cutting the paint up. Using plotters for cutting patterns started around 1999-2000. |

always have respected your opinion in this area I recently learned that too about the military uses. Cool how the Military leads the way for commercial uses of different products that we take for granite. When I was talking to Sean at his shop, his wife overheard me relating my experience with what others had paid for their protective films on this site and she said " see I told you! your charging too little!" with that he just looked at me smiled and said "told you I'd take care of ya" Sean uses a protective film from LLumar and I truly can't tell where the protective film ends and the paint begins I always have to run my finger across the line to feel it.http://www.llumar.com/en/AutoPaintProtection.aspx I don't know a thing concerning the different brands qualities so I'll leave that debate to folks in the know. I think he Guarantees his work for 5 years (I'll check that too tonight as well) His cad program didn't cover the "underside" of the front clip (closet to the road). (he was saying that as with the Camaro being new the manufacture should upgrade the Cad program at a later date)I hope that helps to explain it but I'll take a pic of the underside I'm referring to tonight when I get home. I did not want him to do the hood area as I really don't care for the line across it, so I had him follow the hood-top clip seam, so no I did not have the hood itself done just the top portion of the clip. Oh yea, I asked him how long he had been doing "this" (I asked him that question when he was in My garage tinting the windows) which I then said that amount of time would qualify him as a master craftsman. |

Yeah they dont make a piece that goes under the front lip. That is pretty common with all cars believe it or not. I end up having to custom cut pieces to fit that area not so much for rock chips but mainly for people pulling up on curbs. it also helps to double the film up under there or use the old 18 mil film. I am sure he will take care fo you though. His prices are still very reasonable for the coverage you got. Thats a lot of film... and he didnt make much profit in it. In fact had be botched a peice of film he might have lost a little money. It happens...
Make sure you psot some pics when you get time. Its always nice to see a good install on a new Camaro... really just to see another new Camaro.

The area you are talking about , the kit I used covered mine all the way across and underneath and stops just before that plastic curb guard ( or what ever it's called )..
