18" Wheel Fitment?
Has anyone tried to install a set onto a Z/28 yet? I did a search and came up with nothing. I'm looking to run a different class next year and an 18" wheel opens up a ton of more tire choices. I don't want to go 20" and increase the diameter and effect the gearing. Though it will be negligible.

Calipers are too big for 18's

Aren't companies creating rims that still fit? Doesn't WELD have an 18 option that clears the calipers?

Not true, a few people are running 18s on the standard CCBs.

Looks damn good. Happy to be corrected with that example.
The barrel must be formed precisely perfect to account for the calipers

This just opened up a whole bunch of options for me. Totally looking at 18's now just for the ability to get used take-off's! Thank you!!

Barrel and spoke shape is key to success along with typical wheel specs like offset

Why complicate your life? The stock size Z/28 wheels are wide enough ......
I put 325 size rears on yesterday. My fronts stayed 305. My Z looks amazing and the tires look super beefy and wide. |

When putting on the larger rear tires of 325 and keeping the fronts at 305 - would that produce more understeer when tracking the car? Newbie track question.

I am also running the Pirelli Trofeo R 305 fronts and 325 rears on the stock wheels. The look of the 325s on the rear is great and the traction is a marked improvement over the 305s.

Edit: It's not about how wide the rims are... I have 325's all the way around with no issues. BUT, I want track wheels and tires, and the cost of OEM wheels right now is ridiculous and not easy to find. Even more so for 19" track tires. 18's are more common. I have already located a site that has race take-off Michelin slicks for $125 each in 18's. As for the understeer, absolutely it will. That's why GM didn't do it. They wanted to do staggered, which is why the rear rim is half an inch wider but found out the squared setup is more controllable. |

It can be dialed out to a degree by adding a bunch of toe-out on the front, but they will definitely cause the car to understeer. I ran a staggered setup of 305 and 325 and did not like it for track. They looked great though, and would unquestionably help straight line traction.

The A7's for 19" rims are $488 each. For 18" rims they are $402. They also don't make them in our factory size. They make them slightly bigger. I run the stock wheels with a tw200 Potenza now. That keeps me legal in most classes. If I have to buy rims I might as well get a set that is as small as possible to reduce weight and reduce diameter to get a teensy bit better snap out of the corners (2nd gear). Not to mention they will be slightly cheaper and open up the tire choices immensely.
