I’m leaking clutch fluid...

Over the summer I installed the stand alone reservoir for my clutch. That’s not where the issue is. I took the car out a couple days ago because the roads were rinsed of the salt. I drive maybe 60 miles and before I put the car away for probably another month, I decided to check the clutch fluid reservoir and it was dry. Started digging around today and checked the slave cylinder through the holes in the trans and stuck my fingers inside and everything was dry.

Then I moved to the engine bay, and the plastic piece that the two lines go into the fire wall, the top line being a rubber hose from the reservoir was dry. But the line under that which is a heard line that looks like it goes to the slave cylinder, was leaking right at the connection point.

Do anyone have any experience with this leaking? Is there an oring at the connection that’s perhaps gone bad? If I pull this line to fix it, will I have to bleed the clutch? Thanks In advanced guys.

The plastic unit you are talking about is the clutch master cylinder. I believe it is an o-ring seal on the pressure line that is leaking on your car. There is a metal clip that you need to remove that releases the connection. Remove the metal clip, pull the line out of the MC and replace the o-ring. Reverse the process to install. Yes you will need to bleed the clutch.

If you ever have the transmission out, I highly recommend installing a remote bleeder line. I don't think that you can install a remote bleeder with the trans in the car, but I might be wrong. Anyway, it makes bleeding the clutch a lot easier.

Ok. That’s what I was figuring. I didn’t realize that was the clutch master cylinder unit. I just figured that was a connection point through the firewall. But either way thank you. Any idea on a part number for that o ring?

No problem. I don't have a part number for you but the dealership should be able to set you up easy enough. If you can't find one, let me know because I might have a spare I can drop in an envelope and send to you.

Oh for sure. When the clutch gets done a remote bleeder is on the list of things to do. Thanks for the pictures. I’ll shoot over to the dealership tomorrow and see if I can get this o ring.

Well went to dealer and looks like I can’t buy just the o ring. Gotta buy the whole line. But not s big deal cause it isn’t to crazy expensive. Part number is 92228715 in case anyone else has this issue.

If I were you I would talk to Monster their billet bearing support is a must for the stock slaves as they have known issues to melt down being made of plastic and is a old popular mod to avoid melting the slave/ support disaster/ etc..... and they surely could hook you up with incidental o ring/ bleeder. Also their lt1s dual disc is what I use and feels stock good to major hp and torque and can use stock slave something that's often changed out with a new clutch. That's when doing the clutch.....

But your problem...… when I installed my separate reservoir a GTO one from gen5diy.com it was very hard to seat the tight hose well into the firewall to fit the tight hose over the nipple end of the hard line, I had to use needle nose and repeatedly push after lubricating the interior of the hose then carefully use the hose clamp with the needle nose to get it on secured after making sue it seated well....not easy, not quick.... just from experience. Done right the first time its a good mod. Have not have mine leak ever, I use a good thick cap plug and hose clamp on the stock brake reservoir.

Sounds like you have it handled, but I checked and I do have a couple of spare o-rings for the pressure line into the clutch m/c. Let me know if you need one. I will send it to you for the low, low price of free, with free shipping (an o-ring in a standard envelope).

don't waste your time with that stock line, the rubber section tends to heat up, flex etc. Get the tick stainless line instead.

Have you ever bled the clutch on the camaro before?

I bought my '11 last summer, and as soon as I read about the BLACK clutch fluid due to being contaminated from the brake fluid because GM was cheap and used the m/c for both, I immediately ordered a separate
m/c for the clutch....installed it, and Completely bled the old crap out from ALL the brakes AND clutch. It was EASY, as the bleeder is right in plain sight beside the tranny.....so bleeding the ENTIRE BRAKE/CLUTCH fluids was remarkably FKN EASY!! It has remained nice & clear in both master cylinders since...so I'm a happy camper!!

O' course I have a PIT that's 22' long x 3.5' wide x 6' deep, makes it a piece o' cake to do virtually ANYTHING on any vehicle! I changed the entire suspensions, front AND rear, on my '79 'Vette over this pit!!

The last pic shows the diamond plate covers over the pit, with my "pool table on casters" over it! It's really a ROUGH setup!!

I'm peanut butter and jealous of that pit!
