AC compressor noise - Video Link
I have a 2010 Camaro with an AC issue that I can’t figure out.
Background Info: Ac went out, it was only blowing hot air, so I replaced the AC Compressor and AC Belt. About three days later, I start to hear this noise when I accelerate, while the AC is on. On the fourth day, AC is blowing hot air again. I was thinking it was a defective new compressor. So second time around, as it was suggested, I replaced the AC compressor, Receiver/Dryer, Expansion Valve, and AC Belt. It has been a week and it is now making the noise again. I’m afraid AC Compressor will go out again. Any suggestions? This is the YouTube link of my car making the noise: https://youtu.be/b9cvjgqVa7k Thanks in advance! |

I purchased my 2010 LT in Feb of this year....when attempting to use the AC, I found it to be low on coolant...a quick charge had it blowing COLD air....but making the exact same noise yours is. My mechanic (who I trust to be a good and competent dude) said I had 2 choices....replace everything or flush the system really good, and if it flushed clean, maybe just replace the compressor.
He flushed the system and told me it was CLEAN....like really clean...so he recommended just a new compressor. Once the new compressor was on, I drove it about 1000 miles, and the sound would come and go...cooling was inconsistent. I took it back one day while it was making the noise pretty loudly, and he wanted to pull the compressor and flush again...did so and said it was still REALLY clean, so his guess was a bad compressor right off the shelf. 1st replacement compressor came from O'Reilly auto parts, so he ordered a new compressor from GM. When the GM compressor came in, the pulley did not properly line up with the rest of the system (Off a tooth is how he worded it)...so he ordered ANOTHER one, and replaced it. I've driven it about 2000 miles since....sound occasionally comes back (more faintly than before), and cooling is inconsistent at times, but not as bad....never blown "hot", but degree of coldness fluctuates. Bottom line....something still not right, but it's been managable. Reading this forum, it appears these AC systems have some serious gremlins....would appreciate any insight from some of the gurus here on the forum. |
