Which is the smarter choice?
As I shop for a new daily driver, I am finding myself torn between two choices. I figured you guys being long time Camaro guys could give me some insight here.
My budget tops out around the $30k range for this car. Ideally I'd like to have something 2013+, convertible and manual transmission and blue in color. Here is the situation. I can find some 2013-2015 ZL1 cars in that range with those options. The 5th gen ZL1 comes in the darker blue color which isn't my favorite, I'd probably even consider white. But they are both available. The performance of the ZL1 really draws me to the car. That being said, I already have one very fast car, I don't necessarily need another. But it sure would make for a fun DD. The 6th gen cars I can find 1SS and 2SS models available in hyper blue metallic. I am absolutely in LOVE with that color. Truly wish it was available for the 2015 ZL1. I like the interior of the 6th gen cars better as well. I find myself wondering which will hold it's value better. Does the newer car hold it better, or the better performance package in an older car hold out better? First world problems I guess. Just wanted to get some ideas of what you guys would do. |

I would buy the older ZL1. You are already used to fast cars. You would be disappointed if the Camaro wasn't fast as well.
I'm pretty sure most people like the 2013 ZL1 the best. I can't remember why. The ZL1 would hold its value better than any 1 or 2SS

I think the 2013 specifically because the top issues were addressed, MyLink started up that year, and the body in that particular year was still before the redesign.
I just hate to think that every time I drive by a HBM car in town I'm going to regret it |

I should also clarify. My current DD is a 2005 TrailBlazer. It's no speed demon. The Chevelle comes out a handful of times a year when I want to go fast. So either the SS or the ZL1 will be a huge upgrade for my DD.

The new LT1 starts at 34k with the 6 speed and square 20x8.5 wheel setup wrapped in All season tires; its a more basic SS pretty much but as i stated comes with the LT1 and 6 speed box from the assembly line.

IMO none of the Camaros will hold value better, so its a matter of choice. Reading from your preference, it doesn't leave you with a lot to choose from. You will also have to be careful, as 30k may or may not get you an absolutely mint ZL1. I would re-examine your priorities and if a certain car that you absolutely will want costs more than your budget, then you may be better off waiting and saving up for this car. Good luck.

Well, I pulled the trigger on a 2013 ZL1. I fly out to pick it up on Monday. Pretty damn excited! I'll post more info and pics when I'm back with it. Convertible, blue ray metallic and manual transmission. All of the things I was looking for.
