another glasspack question
yep... another one. but wait! i actually want to make my car quieter not louder!
so i just did speed engineering 1 7/8 longtubes and tsp 200 cell hi flows with my otherwise stock npp exhaust and, surprising no one, the exhaust is louder. however, the hi flows did a lot less than i expected and it is far louder than i expected and was hoping for. i havent even gone on the freeway yet but im sure the drone is going to be... a lot. it sounds great, especially on cold start where the timing is retarded to heat the cats, sounds fantastic even with the stock cam, but volume wise its just too much for me even with the npp forced closed (even with the mufflers closed it is much louder than stock with them open). i would really like to turn the volume down by a bit without sacrificing the note or causing too much restriction. i was thinking some glasspacks would do the trick since they are supposed to do exactly what i want, eat up some sound without causing restriction. has anyone else with this sort of basic setup went and put on glasspacks? did you like the result? how long were they and where were they placed (under the cabin, right behind the mufflers, etc)? did it help with drone? any better suggestions? ideally i would like it back to near oem levels, but i would guess that achieving that would defeat any gains made from the tubes and cats via restriction. my realistic goal is to not be that neighbor waking everyone up at 5am/10pm (with the mufflers closed) and be able to have a non yelling conversation in the car on the freeway as well as not go deaf/insane from drone. also not spending a ton of money would be nice too.

Magnaflow dual in/dual out center muffler. It is their 'Resonated X-Pipe' muffler. That will knock volume down quite a bit, but will still sound great.

interesting, interesting, seems like a good all in one solution and cheap too. plus worst case if i hate it i can just put the old h back on with a 4 pack of butt joint clamps.

Yea I had one of those mid mufflers on mine for a bit when it was straight piped until I got my new catback. It really did the trick at the time.

Maybe a Forza 3 way controller and keep the NPP closed all the time

Take it on the freeway & test it out. I have basically the same setup as you & even with the valves open at freeway speed, drone is minimal. Valves closed I hear just enough to know the engine is running. I also have 3.91s so bumps the rpm at freeway speed by a couple hundred.

well after a few days of driving normal and spirited driving i can confirm that i was indeed overreacting a bit. with the mufflers open its just slightly louder than before (when not wot), when closed its almost as quiet as before. still torn if i want a muffler/resonator because i both love and hate the rasp and resonance when jammin it but until i decide to at least its not as unbearable as i thought.
one thing for sure though is the tsp cats are definitely not cleaning the exhaust enough to pass a smog here (obd only but theyll definitely smell me rolling up) even after as heated as theyll ever get so ill have to get some 300 or 400 cell units for sure :/

uhh, yeah. tuning out cat codes isnt exactly a secret and you dont have to be a rocket surgeon to figure out that no codes + reeking exhaust + shiny long tubes = no cats (literally or functionally). you can still fail for stuff like an obviously smoking exhaust even with all passing monitors and obvious delete pipes or blockoffs so theres literally no reason they couldnt give you an emissions tampering fail for smelling catless.
