It got a little scary last night
Every time I'm working on the car I got my system playing Music (Rammstein)
I Always use the NOCO GENIUS5, 5A Smart Car Battery Charger to trickle charge it. So I have a 300 amp AM Alternator, going into the Yellow Top AGM Battery I also got a second battery XS 750 Series AGM mounted where the stock Amp used to be, both batteries are on a 250 AMP Dual Battery Smart Isolator which I believe went bad or something, you only turn it on when the main is drained so you still be able to crank your car and you have to immediately turn it back off after. Well long story (Sorry) short my secondary was about to blow, big bulge, I got a new one coming but I think I will just connected in Series instead of the Isolator. Of course I disconnected it immediately and moved it away, That's the reason I got a FE in my Car lol Anyone got an Idea what has happen here? |

If you connected in series, you doubled the voltage to 24 Volts DC which is not good the electronics which is good for no more than 16 volts DC. When running two 12 Volt batteries in your car that's a 12 volt system, you should connect them in parallel (positive to positive and negative to negative to negative) this will give you increased current and capacity potential but still be 12 volts.

My mistake, I interpreted your last sentence in the original post the wrong way, it stated you made a connection in series, I took it you were speaking of the battery, sorry.

I'm struggling to come up with a scenario how wiring either on parallel or series would damage the battery. In series you get 24 volts but that will hurt everything other that the battery and would not keep the batteries charged. In parallel and nothing bad happens, just like using jumper cables or how many diesels 12v trucks are wired.
It looks like an internal battery problem to me. |
