Alternator
Could use some help. I believe my alternator is on the verge of going out. The alternator is the original (2015). Has always displayed 14 volt output. The other day in route to a VA appointment, and upon arrival, my radar detector that is synchronized to monitor voltage output and battery charge ~ checked dash readings (voltage reading 12-11.8 volts.
Took my Z to a well renowned performance shop and was told all checks were made (computer readings, connections, belt, pulley, sensor etc) being told the alternator is putting out. So, I was informed no need to change alt. So, believing that the alternator is going or gone needs replacing, guy’s… what do you think? Should I just go ahead with what I believe and replace the alternator? Greatly appreciated. Last edited by richard grimsley; 06-01-2024 at 12:28 PM. Reason: Typing error |

Sure. Sounds like all diagnostic was done. I assume you’re not on the original battery?

Aren’t these alternators clutched? So sometimes they are charging and sometimes they are not depending on some parameters. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Displaying 14v all of the time is the part that doesn't sound correct but 11.8 is also a little low.

Has anyone thought about how charging works properly if a second ground cable has been added to the trunk ?
2.cables in parallel,but only 1.current sensor.
