Track / Gear question?

Lets say i have 2 stock camaros both with a quarter mile time and speed of 13.5 sec @ 108.44 mph

Now lets say i throw a 3.73 in one car and a 4:10 in the other. What changes?

wow 34 hits and no responses

it wasn't a trick question i promise

i am assuming one gear will produce a higher trap speed and a lower time while the other may have the opposite affect

what do you guys think? my first upgrade will be a gear. i just wanted some insight on 1/4mile performance.

You may or may not get a better ET. It depends on torque and horseower at the end of the quarter stock vs. new gear. The RPM will probably be higher but the MPH may be the same. It also depends on the difference between the two gears and whether it is an A6 or M6. Weight of the car, tires and rims also affects benefit of new gear

A radical 4.50 rear end will definitely improve the ET but not necessarily the MPH. MPH may be controled by horsepower.

my mind has been racing thinking about this question:

2 drivers of equal skill
2 camaros with the same performance
but with different gears (4:10 and 3:73)

who will come out ahead in the 1/4mile?

If you are racing for E.T. with the weight of the vehicle I would say the car with the 4:10 would win...

It will come down to how much traction you can support off of the line. These cars have 6 speed transmissions, so once you are halfway through first gear it won't make very much difference. It also depends on if the 4.10 has to shift one extra gear before the end of the 1/4. That may actually slow it down.

In my M6 I hit the trap at almost redline in 3rd gear (113.55). So if the gear was changed to 4.10 I may lose some time if I now had to shift into 4th. Auto trans maybe not. Having a 108 trap prior to change may not cause this issue

In a 4000 lb car you need low gears to get it out of the hole unless your having traction issues. A great 60 ft time is the most important part of having your best E.T.s. But as mentioned above having to shift the M6 and get out of the power range could hurt ya.
