Stock SS two-piece driveshaft removal/reinstallation
Am I doing something wrong with the removal and/or re-installation, on my behalf..? I removed the two ends of the stock, steel factory driveshaft, leaving the two rubber dampeners(?) on the rear differential and transmission. I guess I could’ve just removed them from the sections with the rubber dampeners intact, but I didn’t see it being totally necessary. The driveshaft carrier bearing mount was also fine to remove and reinstall, so I didn’t think there were any issues there.
Either way, I marked the ends of my driveshaft, as well as the rubber dampeners that were still attached to the rear diff and trans. I figured doing so would help me line up the driveshaft, exactly the way that it was installed from the factory, keeping it balanced. Problem now is, that if I install any of the one ends of my stock driveshaft, one of the ends (with the yoke), will have a gap in between the end of the driveshaft and the rubber dampener… I figured it might’ve been due to me not removing the driveshaft with the dampeners intact, but I wasn’t 100% sure of the cause. I was planning to just use a long bolt, with washers and a nut, to basically pull the one end that has the gap, together, so that it can be re-installed again. Since I can kind of muscle it by hand, to close the gap, I figured using a makeshift compression tool, shouldn’t be problematic. If anyone knows if I’m doing anything wrong, or should be checking anything else, please let me know! |

There's a slip joint to set the length, just bolt in one end and pull on the other.
