CHP got outrun by a Camaro
The California CHP in Dublin is asking for help in identifying a black Camaro that out ran them on New Year's Eve with speeds way in excess of 100 and had some type of stealth black out plate that they couldn't identify. New tech electronic license plate maybe?
Anyhow the comments on the CHP website were hilarity at its finest. "If you catch him give him a job", "buy faster cars", "you got gapped, its ok to admit it" etc. 😂 Btw, only a public service announcement because street racing on Camaro5 is strictly forbidden. ☠️

But tag flippers have been around for a while. Last few years or so there's electronic plates that run off the tag bulb wires. You press a button on a remote and it turns off essentially blacking out the tag. Its basically a flat sceen TV. Can also display different tags by touch of a button. In FL having this on your vehicle can be a trip to jail and vehicle towed. CHP did just buy a fleet of 6th gen 1LEs. So they have cars that are capable of running someone down.

That's what we all fear in a freeway high speed chase. Is it worth it to have two cars driving in excess on 100mph on a public freeway?

Every vehicle the highway patrol owns is capable of speeds over 100, hell even 140-150. It's not the speed that allows people to get away, it's acceleration.

Bare in mind that the purpose of a pursuit is to apprehend and end the pursuit as quickly and safely as possible. Thats why LEO have PIT and TVI and the newer GPS darts and grappler bumpers. Each agency has different pursuit policies as well ranging from free range to absolute zero. Training and discretion needs to come into play because theres a ton of case law on pursuits and a lot of them do not favor law enforcement.
