Vicious break in: What kind of a difference can it make?

One thing that caught my eye when absorbing all of this information about the LS3's dyno numbers and track times: how important is a good break in for these motors? I know the value of breaking in a motor properly........i beat the living SHIT out of my car for a long time and I seemed to dyno much much higher than most people for the mods I have (296/315). A lot of these LS3's seem to be dynoing a bit lower than I would think an LS-series motor rated at 426 hp would dyno (they're usually insanely underrated).

so.........Do these cars end up doing much better with a long vicious break in? Do these motors respond well to that? For some reason I just feel like if i got a 2010 SS and beat on it like i did my mustang, i'd be running 113 mph trap speeds without touching the air filter.

thoughts?

what? i'm not the only one. someone on here just posted a similar story about beating on their LS1 camaro and having it run an abnormally fast time............i don't think its a secret that some motors respond better to a more enthusiastic break in period.......do you have some kind of reason for posting that?

My camaro will receive the same treatment as any other chevy I have ever owned. The gas pedal will see the floor often. I personally think it makes a huge difference.

I agree, beat on it. The motor itself has already been run "nicely" at the factory. That parts been done. The quicker you loosen up the motor the more power you are going to make. I drive mine hard and w/ 750 miles on it I am the fastest bolt-on L99 in the 1/4 on here...

There is no scientific evidence or research in a controlled environment that shows that beating on your car during the break-in process will be of any significant improvement compared to normal, factory break-in procedure.

Having said that. I drive mine like I stole it, and love every second of it.

my "break in" procedure was very similar to the one in that write up..... but i got my car with 10k miles on it. 1st and 2nd gear hard acceleration runs almost every day, putting in the clutch and letting it coast back down at the top of 2nd gear. (also served as some pretty good practice for drag racing )

I really do feel like the car is faster now than when i first modded it. my best indicator is that back then, from a roll, it wouldn't spin the stock 235 pirelli's to save its life (without dumping the clutch). now, i have bigger 255 nitto 555's on it, and from a roll traction isn't very consistent, it'll break them loose pretty easily even on grippy roads in 90 degree heat.

for anybody who would buy a buy a brand new car then ask random, anonymous people how to break it in.

For all you know everybody who answers is in eighth grade.

Relax, I was only laughing because you said Sh*t in all CAPS. We tend to try to limit the profanity on this forum, but we understand the point you were making.
