Should There Be 2, 3, 4, Or More Camaro Levels?
I was thinking the Vette has what five offerings base, GS, Z06, Carbon, & ZR1, shouldn't a car that sells more volume offer more. Like adding a Z28
and a GS-R (think Camaro version of the VETTE'S GS) to the line up. What do you think?

Agreed. The LS was originally going to have a tamer V6 engine that produced around 200 HP, and they were going to sell that under 20K. The Z28 is coming. Plus, the convertible is coming. So that would be around 5/6 levels. Makes sense to me.
LS LT 1 and 2 LT 1 and 2 convertible SS 1 and 2 SS 1 and 2 convertible Z28

I hate how GM releases this info before we know it....
Edit: Ah, right. Looks like they had spare parts hanging around from the ZR1, slapped them on a few zo6's to get rid of them, and called it a ltd edition carbon edition. Pass. Last edited by Frank in MD; 06-16-2010 at 07:14 PM. |

The camaro is a car for the masses. Making 80 different types of camaros would cut sales horribly and lead to losses of profit. Remember, GM is trying to get out of debt, not get more. They shouldn't even have an LS/LT1/LT2, it should be LT, SS, z28. End of story. And the Z28 shouldn't be the super car, it should be the "road-course" car, like the older one was. And the SS should be the all out performance car.
z28 = should be what the SS is now. SS = should be the supercharged 427ci monster. |

I love my V6, but a base V8 would be a nice offering. Like a 5.3 or 6.0 without the SS upgrades brakes, coolers, suspension etc. Like the first gen cars, we could mod them our way.
I know you can mod anything from a V6 to an SS, hell even a ZR1 but that's what a Camaro was in it's early days.

GM definitely needs to make more option levels for the V8's.

Being a car for the masses doesn't mean we all want the same car. Some want a luxo cruiser, drag car, track car, or even a super car. Why shouldn't GM capitalize on this by offering more? Most people don't go aftermarket, but want more. In my opinion the L/S and L/T are more option packages as are the 1 & 2 variants, They are not levels like LT verses SS. Now a V6 base and then a V6 track pack would be a better idea. Then a SS, GS-R (think SCCA SS track car), Z28, & Convertible (V6 base & SS). This works for the Vette. Your idea of losing money is not realistic. Profits should increase as some would move up in their purchasing the next level, not spending their money on aftermarket as well as more cars sold. |
