Catalytic Converters are for emissions testing. I live in the Nashville, TN metropolitan air quality zone and go through an annual emissions test and inspection to make sure I have cats.

Cats are just there to burn up hydrocarbons. There is no downside really to not having them from a mechanical standpoint. If you have to pass a visual inspection or a sniffer then you will need to have some on your car. If you have no emissions I would lean toward getting rid of them. Why buy high flow cats at a premium when you can achieve the same goal by getting rid of them altogether? Also, if you do have emissions but only have to pass a plug-in test then you can have your computer reprogrammed to make your cats show up as "ready"

Keep the cats, get high flow ones if you want more performance, but dont get rid of them on a car you drive on public streets.

From a Performance stand point today's High Flow Cats Make exactly the same power as No cats.
Pretty Impressive. But they Do get rid of that Nasty smell of exhaust fumes which is why I run them even on our very High HP Builds. Ted.

In Tennessee you are required to have them even if there is no emmisions testing. if a cop looks and does not see them they you will get ticketed... get the high flow Cats. PS, Same goes for mufflers.. resonaters are not required though.
