Dominion Raceway
Finally got a chance to run Dominion. Best laptime I found in my videos was 1:31.90. I was late on the throttle going into 1, took the understeer city line through 6 and was hella late on the throttle coming out of the uphill essess so a few more ticks to find. My Data logger went on the fritz so data courtesy of the GoPro. Gs are actually pretty close and speed seems to be +/- 5mph.
I really liked the track. Red group ran really well and had no issues with no point by passess. Black was fast too. Kept a new turbo s behind me for 5 laps . His best was a 1:31.4 but never closed the gap enough on the straight to get a point. Car ate me alive on the straight. The gap he closed was bonkers. My max was 137 and he told me he hit 157 with me being in the way!! https://youtu.be/JNrnJ6p0x4s |

Wow that is a good section of straight, scrubbing a lot of speed into entry! Looks like a good track!

Looks like a fun ride David, sorry I couldn't be there with you! I'd definitely like to get the same video and logging system you have for mine.

Agreed. How many Jersey walls and guardrails can they put on one track? That place scares this novice to death.

Dude. Going through the car today... it CHEWED my tires up. I mean like Chewed. My dad was like - "did they lay sandpaper down?"
Dan - it's really not that bad at all. Few things I'd say.. I'd be more worried about rock chips from all the rocks there then the walls. The walls are in places you really shouldn't be (mechanical failure or medical event would really be the only reason to hit most walls). Yes, it's unforgiving if you make a mistake. My areas of concern or comments as follows: - Drivers right hand side wall 1/2 way down main straight. A medical or mechanical event could lead to a collision at speed. I don't mind the wall per say, I don't like that it starts 1/2 way down the track. - Turn 1 has more run off then it looks. You can get away with a mild to moderate mistake. A turn 1 brake failure would really hurt, however. - The walls in T2 and T3 really don't come into play. They actually give the place character. Its like racing at long beach in an indy car. Additionally, being so enclosed you get great acoustic feedback from the LS7. - Turn 6 has no retaining wall and a decent drop. You just can't take too much risk here. The design of the track is good though because 7 can't be taken flat out so its an unnecessary place to take excessive risk - Short straight is interesting but you can take most of the risk out of play. On the blind entry you can apex late. Under the bridge I was staying 6" - 12" off the retaining wall. Some folks can get within 3" every time and rotate like mad men onto the main straight. I'll go after the rotation but I'm happy to sacrifice some exit speed to give myself some margin. I'd def. play at Dominion again. Probably will take the FiST on R888Rs next time however. The weight of the car and the make up of the track surface does consumables no favors. |
