What is under the gas door cover?

Like the title says. What is under the chrome gas door cover? The cover appears to be crimped on or something. I was just wondering if I take the chrome piece off if I have a flush fitting cover in body color (the inside of the door is).

Most of the chrome gas doors replace the stock fuel door.. they just slide and pop off

I am talking about the chrome cover on the door that looks like the old racing filler caps.

Is that what you mean?

I am talking about the chrome disc that has fake bolts on it that comes on the gas door from the factory. I looked at mine last night and it appears to be glued on maybe?

Apparently not all cars came with them. The last three I have seen around here have them.

That is taking the whole door off from the looks of it.

This is the fuel door cover you're referring to correct?..if it is ..your stock door was removed and replaced with this ..and also the bolts are not fake..they can be removed if you decide to paint it or something.

That just looks a fake stick on one. Looks like it just can be pried off, but I don't know the shape of the fuel door underneath.

Oh yeah that's a cheaper aftermarket one held on with 3m tape..try warming it up with a heat gun..be careful and should be able to remove it from your stock fuel door

I've seen these on several cars so I assumed it was factory. Worse case scenario I can always stick it back on.
