HUD went out..now seems OK
Chevy replaced the HUD on my 2013 2LT/RS back in 2015(still under warranty) because it completely went out.
Yesterday...while on freeway...looked....NO HUD display. It's been working fine since. Just the isolated incident. Could the incident been due to; my car is a convertible; top was down...it was 115 degrees here in Vegas at time. Any thoughts???????

Hmm, not sure, but 115 with top down? yikes!

sometimes when it's super bright out I can't see mine either if the sun is just right.

I would bet it was this, especially if you had the top down. I've had this happen for a second or two when I've had the sun roof all the way open and the sun has hit it just right.

mine disappears with polarized sun glasses. It makes me nuts. you can see a ghost of it as long as its not really bright.

I have noticed that if the unit gets too hot, it will not work. Sometimes if it cools down enough, it will fire up, but usually a restart of the car is required. As long as I put up a sun screen when parked, it's not an issue. Normal driving the AC should be enough to keep it cool.
It was 115 here on my way home yesterday and I had no issues. As to the polarized glasses, it doesn't really go away, it just filters out the blue (unless you have brown polarized maybe? I always got grey ones). try turning up the brightness, as I can usually see the green (though it washes out if I'm behind a white car) |

Not much knowledge or experience with a HUD, does it display by projection or reflection? In either case I can't imagine it does well when subjected to direct sunlight. My Aeroforce gauges wash out pretty hard core in high heat, even with keeping them covered to prevent direct sun soak.

Polarized does more than blue light. It only lets light pass that is hitting the lens at a certain angle. If you hold two up to each other and turn them 90 degrees they go black. Nothing passes. On my Boat electronics if I look at it with my head tilted the screen will go blank same with the HUD. |

I hadn't given much thought to the HUD getting baked. But it can't be good for it. Just like any other electronic device. I'll be more diligent about the sun shade. Supposed to be hot in L.A. today and tomorrow.

I try to always use a reflective sunshade when it’s parked outside. Combined with the 15% tint it stays pretty cool even in direct sunlight.
You can see the shade in this picture: |

Those are the old wheels. The new ones are much better:

Reckon I should have been more specific. The reason I ask regarding projection/reflection is I have an app on my phone called Speedview that uses the phone's GPS to give speed data and some other gee whiz stuff and it can be put into a mode that when placed on the dash the display will be reflected off the windshield without special glass treatment or technically being a projector. If I remember to do it I'll get some pics or video for example if it still has that mode. I haven't used it in a while. At any rate, it probably doesn't matter in either case since the projector/reflected display will be in direct sunlight whenever the windshield portion it uses is. While I don't think it should be sensitive to sunlight, since it's a foregone conclusion that it will subjected to direct exposure, it appears it may be. While reading about HUDs in general I saw a blurb stating there are HUDs available now for Motorcycle helmets. Gonna have to do some more research on those and see if they are economically feasible for me. |

Oh yeah, I get this. I have prescription glasses, and up until my most recent pair, I've always had a set of polarized sunglasses as well. They cut glare significantly. With polarized lenses, it's definitely dimmer though I still never had a problem reading it. If I tilted my head sideways though, it was a lot more visible. |
