Spare Tire

Today when hooking up a trickle charger to my battery I notice there was no spare tire, no fix flat and no equipment to change a tire should one happen to have a flat. I called the original owner and told me it didn't have one.

Can someone confirm if this is true. If it is true can someone tell me what did come with the 2013 SS in terms of tools etc for emergency tire issues.

Thanks Guys,

Thanks Guys,
I noticed that as well when I was investigating a leak. Mine has a foam "tire" with some sort of fix a flat pump inside of it. I guess having different width wheels would make it tricky to have a spare.

Gen 5's did not come with a spare tire, they also didn't come with a jack or lug wrench to change a tire. They came with a small air pump that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket and is supposed to be used to fill your tire to get you somewhere to get it fixed or call for a tow (if you didn't have a cell phone) .. a lot of good it will do you if you have a major blow out or a hole caused by anything other then a small nail. carrying a can of fix-a-flat (foam) in case of an emergency may help out, but again, only if it is a very small puncture or leak.

GM decided that providing an actual spare tire and the jack etc isn't all that critical these days, since many people have OnStar or AAA or some other road side assistance, or at least a cell phone. Thus they can save the cost and associated weight of those items.
As a consolation, they give you a tire pump equipped with a can of fix-a-flat.
Whoopee.

Not sure concerning the 6th gens, but with the 5th gens, the spare tire well can accommodate (size-wise) a stock 19" wheel/tire, but not the usual 20" wheels/tires.

After doing research in the tire section, I bought a spare tire kit for $350 shipped. A bit pricy but I just don’t trust the fix a flat solution, especially here in Michigan where we get blowouts from potholes that aren’t fixable with the inflator and goop.

Only the V6 had an optional spare, jack, lug wrench because that spare wheel would fit over non-Brembo smaller calipers and also fit in the trunk's spare wheel-well. That spare and tool set was a $200 option. If buyer did not choose the spare option the default was inflator/tire sealer kit.

The SS has larger Brembo calipers, the optional V6 spare wheel will not fit over the SS calipers ... instead it has an inflator/seal kit in the SS trunk.

There are many threads in this forum that explain how a wheel adapter/spacer can be used to allow tweak for the V6 spare wheel to clear the Brembo calipers ... i use that technique on my SS. And I documented that in a Post in this forum. If patient, can usually find the needed parts cheap in ebay.

I have a 20" BMW 7 series as a spare [it clears the calipers], I don't use the trunk so it just sits in there, just in case.

You'd find more things in my trunk

I also prefer to rely on myself.
That's why I have a spare tire, spare V-belt, bulbs and basic tools.
Of course, I will not solve everything, but I try to always have the foundation

I bought a spare tire for mine. Took the compressor out. I don't have OnStar, nor AAA. I prefer to be back on the road in 10 minutes instead of waiting 3 hrs to have a wrecker pick it up and bring to a closed dealership only to have to wait a weekend to get your car back form a flat lmao

Seriously, I don't have on star either. Last flat I got I was going 45 through San Juan Capistrano... rear passenger NT555 G2... car wiggled and so I pulled over.

Only one option. Call for a flat bed for a ride to the nearest firestone with a 315. They gave me a 315 dueler that I wore until I replaced all 4 with brand new NT555 G2's... it's a great tire. Flat was caused by a broken stem valve.

Till this day my only option continues to be to call for a flat bed. It's fine for now.
