Because you are smart... 3.91s kick ass with an L99...but with those, a converter, and cam, traction will be in short supply.

I’ve heard that high of a gear makes it extremely difficult to hook with an automatic. That’s all. I’m doing GPI stage 2 and decided to go with 3.45. My understanding is better hooking and less shifts in the quarter mile.

I have 3.91 gears. With drag radials I can dead hook at the track. At a certain point, driving skill determines wheel spin because power is so high they can break loose at any speed. I can be doing 60mph and nail it, giving me smoke city lol. I had 3.42 I think but there was no jump when I launched.

Who has thoughts on the daily drivability of this build? I know a lot of that will depend on the tune, but just curious about any issues you may see with the components. I appreciate the info on the 3.91 gear. Thanks all! It goes under the wrench in a week.

You shouldn't have any trouble with drivability. GPI is rock solid. And that converter will help a lot. Mines as smooth as can be. It only bucks at red lights lol.

Also I wouldn't go anymore than 10% underdrive.

I have 3.91s on my M6 LS3 and I don’t even notice it during normal driving. There are no drivability issues. It’s just designed to pull you harder on acceleration if you so choose.
Don’t get the 3.45 get the 3.91 |

Oh and I still get about 22-24 mpg on the interstate at 70 mph on cruise control.

I'm interested to learn why. Is it just too much to take away from the accessories? Batter charging issue?

Are you running a bigger cam at all? That mpg is what I'm running now. CAI, LTH and tune actually increased it slightly. Wondering what the SS3 cam will do to it, LoL.

Bingo. The very small gain isn't worth the risks for a daily car. Cooling issues, charging issues, power steering issues for certain years, and other issues. I noticed a increase in temp with 10% but the 160 offsets it pretty good. I would only go more with a dedicated all out performance build. But that's just me. Other people just sent it lol.

2013s have hydraulic steering, 2010/11s don't. Please let us know what GPI thinks about them, I have one I'm waiting to install.
As far as gears...man, they just make the car want to pull on the highway. I just did a 5 hour drive today and wasn't even hitting it and the car just wanted to go, it was just smooth.
