Wear spot from no tonneau! Tonneau alternatives?
Greetings forum, definitely lurked here before but first time posting. I have a 2011 Camaro SS convertible. The previous owner said he never used the tonneau cover and didn't have issues so I did the same. However, where the canvas contacts the trim, it has developed a wear spot. To my chagrin, I realized that I should be using the tonneau cover. I took it out of the trunk and where the velcro is glued to the tonneau cover, the glue has become a goopy liquid and spread all over, probably due to being in there when it's hot out. I don't want to get the glue all over the car and I never really wanted to use the tonneau cover in the first place. Is there a quick light duty alternative any of you have used to prevent these wear spots? I was thinking about cutting a black pool noodle or pipe insulation and sticking it on the trim where the canvas contacts but I'm afraid it will just fly off and/or stain the canvas. I attached pictures of the spot with the top up and with the top down. It's also starting to develop a spot in the same place on the other side.

Your mechanism is broke. Very common problem in fact there’s a class action lawsuit against GM for this. I had the same issue shortly after I bought my 12 many years ago. Had to put a new $1,500 top on it. Using your tonneau wouldn’t have prevented this.

Can you go into more detail? It's clear that the canvas is rubbing against the trim in that spot. Are you saying the top should be retracting further? Do you have a link for this lawsuit? Thanks |

Yes. Your 5th bow is either bent or broke. See my other post for a FB link
