ZL1 Brake Pad options Street/Track.
Hi, I know we talked about Pads a little in my rotor thread but figured I'd start a different thread which will be easier for people to search in the future.
I did do a search but most posts are a few years old and things change. I am upgrading my SS to ZL1 brakes with either OEM or DBA Rotors. What are some current pad offerings that will be a good choice for Street/Track use. I plan to do 2 to 3 track days a year and 1,000 or so street miles a season. I am not looking for a pad that will squeal a lot or dust a lot more than the OEM Pads. I am happy with the performance of the stock SS Pad but I have not pushed it hard on th etrack with this set up so I can't speak for them their. Are the OEM SS and ZL1 Pads the same compound? Thanks

I run two different sets of pads. Hawks on the track and Dynamic Friction on the street. The Hawks were not that bad on the street, but the bite was pretty aggressive when you just tap the brakes. Rotor temps are so different between track and street driving, you will have a hard time finding one pad that satisfies you in both scenarios.

Do you have to prep the rotors when switching from one pad to the other?

I don't and I don't know of anyone that does. I do bed the pads when I change them.

Ferodo DS 2500 seem like a decent option but they sure are not cheap. Price for OEM are all over the place.

Factory GM Brembo pads for the street(you can buy them direct from Brembo) and Raybestos ST43 for track.
People with ZL1's also take the factory pads off because they don't like the dust. I have bought 2 sets like this for cheap and they were almost brand new.

Yeah the dust with factory SS pads dust like crazy, I'd like to find and comparable pad that doesn't dust as bad but I really don't want to give up the street performance they offer. I live in the country and have some great roads that can be hard on brakes.

My car is garage kept and I have no problem cleaning the wheels, It just amazes me how much a street pad can dust, The large brakes don't help and I am assuming the Large ZL1 set up will be worse.
Hopefully the Amazon ones won't be knock offs as they do have the best price.

I tried a new set of SS EBC pads and rotors my first time a Sebring and they faded quick. Could not finish the day. That is what made me switch to ZL1 brakes.
