Crisis averted.
Came back from an oil change with a check engine light. They cleared and said it should go away in a day. It came back. I went back and the allegedly looked at it and said it had to be rats. As Gibbs says there’s no such thing as coincidence. I pull the cover off and start looking around and find they’ve screwed the filter cover down on two wires. The part that gets me is they didn’t even look.

Well, someone's really lucky. You caught them red-handed. And yes, the guy above is right - don't go to them again.

I'll tell you what worries me the most having a oil change on the v6 engines is the rubber gaskets on the filter stick to the filter housing when the old filter is removed. So if no one takes the time to look the rubber gasket is stuck down inside the housing and the upper gasket is stuck to the cover. Insert new filter and now you have double gaskets and the filter gets crushed in the process as the cover is tightened. If I get the oil changed in the v6 car I always ask to see the old parts and remind them the old rubber gaskets need to be removed. They are not glued on to the filter so they stick to the cover and housing.
