I don’t think there is much difference between the Z28 ones and the SS ones. There was a cutout in the steel in the top but there didn’t seem to be much difference in the rubber. I would just use the SS ones.

The Z28 and 1LE units are supposed to be a bit thicker and stiffer than SS ones, but I have a 1LE set up on the vert using SS rear shock mounts. That car is a creampuff compared to the turbo car with all it's mods.

There may be some differences between the SS and z28 but they can’t make much difference. I remember thinking when i swapped mine that it was likely a waste of time and money.

I figured I would swap them in when I swap shocks, I have no idea if they are better or not I have just heard they were stiffer so I figured I would grab a set before they are gone. I have not looked but I would think that some aftermarket performance shock companies would offer them.
