Finally ran a Tesla Y twin motors.. whatever. Anyone else had the chance?
Hey guys..my buddy has a Hellcat and his wife has the Tesla Y with twin motors. It doesn't have any upgrades. I don't know much about them.
Anyway in Mexico from a 40 roll it wasn't close.. I put 5 or 6 cars on him by 110. Didn't get a dig race yet but I will. Anybody had a Tesla run?

It's a closer race if your Camaro is stock. Never got the chance to hit 110 though. In Mexico, of course.

From a stoplight it's a 0-60 type run most of the time. Cars rated at 400+ crankhp and awd can be a problem unless you have very sticky tires. Not cutting a perfect light and bad traction spell game over. Sucks when it's a stock BMW Audi etc in the other lane sometimes even 10yo car model.

There’s not many of them around in the part of New Mexico I’m in. They just finished building a Tesla dealer out side Albuquerque so I’m sure I’ll start seeing more of them. I’ve run against of 3-4 of them in my old car on a couple California vacations. They are quick off the line, that instant torque is real but it was a semi easy win once I had some RPM’S built up. I mostly ran from a roll up to about 80-85 MPH. The one dig I did was a little closer than I’d like to admit, like I said if you are sleeping at the light or spin the tires a lot its gonna be a close race, mostly stock vs mostly stock.

My boss has a twin motor rivian R1T, he teases me about how he has 800hp sometimes... on an over 7,000lb car. It is pretty fast on the get up and go from what I've seen, it is pretty funny to see the horsepower and top speed ratings on some of the EVs like the hummer EV having that 1000hp and top speed of 106 mph, limited because of the how heavy they are, something about stress at the tire.

Since you mentioned the $2K acceleration boost, sounds like it is a normal long range. Model Y LR does 0-60 4.8 seconds.
So not surprised at the result. |

Oh wow, now that's what I call a power couple ). I've tested the Tesla Y as well, it was amazing, but I have to mention that a friend of mine has just bought a Tesla 3, and despite it being the cheapest Tesla on the market, it's one good hell of a ride! My friend has upgraded it, he's got some of the best Tesla Model 3 accessories, and suddenly it felt like there were no major differences between Tesla Y and model 3.

yeah motor trend has an article on the dual motor 3. I test drove a single motor and it was about like a stock 5th gen.
A dual motor will be faster. A performance model 3 will run with and outrun the stock bigboys cars from a typical street launch up to 100. The Ys are slower than the 3s but a dual motor Y with peformance boost upgrade is quite enough for me. It runs about like a 5th gen SS without traction problems. But someone under certain type races, roll 40 to 150 or whatever, that I don't do, and $25k into mods in their car can be faster. Ok just get a corvette z06 or ZR1 and be faster for $100k plus. For the $25k mods alone a person could buy a good used 3. A stock sedan or minivan like Y can spank most cars from a stoplight and be under warranty with no issues like blown driveline or engine. Someday people will start to realize this if they have been in denial. |

Whether you’re talking a Model 3 or Model Y there’s a big difference between a Long Range Dual Motor (with or without the $2k performance upgrade) and a Performance. The difference is like if you go back a few years and took a Model S Dual Motor versus a Model S Plaid. We’re talking SS vs ZL1 level of difference. The Dual Motor would be freaky fast. The Plaid is a Hellcat stomper. The Model 3 Performance is basically the Model 3 version of the Plaid, but two motors instead of three. But the motors are not the same motors as in the Long Range Dual Motor.
This video is 5 years old. It’s Throttle House so I think we can assume it’s fair. Model 3 Performance vs Charger Hellcat. FF to 3:25 for the dig, 4:55 for the roll. The 2024 Model 3 Performance has improved performance over the 2019 in this video. https://youtu.be/zFiw3_uXyyQ?si=e3QiyC7rUlXfuXC0 Here’s a 1/2 mile on a drag strip. Not certain about how much prep the strip has. https://youtu.be/zprp0uL8pQ0?si=MHbCFQwIZGrMqXr1
