has anyone tested the Z/28 OEM axles? I bought those hoping my weenie 500hp car would be fine with minimum launches with sticky tires

Can’t speak to the axles, but there is nothing weenie about 500 hp… That’s a fun ride…

No joke. I have which I believe around 485 whp now (to be proven on the dyno) and I can't even imagine 7,800 whp power or more like some of you guys but mine is a daily.

Well I guess I'm going to find out sooner or later about the oem axles and sticky tires maybe at LS Festival in May as long as my budget permits it. I'll just take my extra set of axles with me.

Never ran them, but externally they look exactly like the 1LE axle. I have seen some info saying they run different CV joints than the 1LE, but I don't know that to be fact. They are supposed to be the strongest of the OEM 10bolt axles, so next step up from there is the aftermarket.

The "Rzeppa" (pronounced, 'Sheppa') design of the CV axle was likely never created for superior strength. It was more created for just what it is - true Constant Velocity, whereby the six balls bisect the angle giving real, 1:1 uniform motion while transmitting torque through an angle. (unlike the non-uniform motion of a universal joint or double cardan CV) Personally, I think the small shaft diameter and hard (somewhat) brittle cages are a weak link when really put to the test. But no doubt they've beefed them up and made improvements over FWD K-cars of the 80's! Although the original Alfred Rzeppa patent goes back to 1928.
More than you wanted to know.
