1LE REAR AXLE
Was looking under car today and noticed, rear half shafts are different diameters. Are they supposed to be different sizes? I bought the car used and it runs great, but what's up with the different size axles?

Yes that is correct, different diameters because the torsional loads are different between the two axles, this helps control (but not eliminate) wheel hop

I have 1LE axles on my SS and I believe the bigger axle is on the passenger side.
They are much bigger than the older SS models.

There is only one difference between SS and 1LE axles...the outer CV's are larger diameter to handle out board power better since that is the CV that experiences higher loads...and the axle nut is bigger...good intermediate swap until 1000+ HP axles are needed...peace out...
BTW - right axle larger since engine tq is biased to the right do to rotational forces.....

Looks like RockAuto still has some right side Z28 axles, but I have not seen any 1LE axles for a while. Pretty sure GM discontinued them.
