Quick coolant question
I was driving for about an hour and got the warning my coolant overheated and I needed to idle the engine. I checked my coolant reservoir and it was low.
I ended up having to stop at a 711 and add PEAK coolant 50/50 I understand I’m suppose to add dexcool but this is all they had. How bad is park? Do I need to flush my coolant? I ended up adding about 1 cup (not that much) could I just leave it? |

I would flush it out, change the thermostat and use dexcool or compatible dexcool Prestone. When you refill, add from the radiator cap, the reservoir and from the top hose of the radiator right into the block, these cars a tough to get all the air out. See the link below for a thermostat replacement video.

You should have just added some distilled water to it. I would completely flush the cooling system. I would first find the leak you have. Leaks cause air to be mixed with dexcool and that will turn it to sludge. Coolant doesn't disappear without there being a leak.

A cup low in the reservoir is nothing. Might be something else getting ready to happen.

How about your cars,do you have to add coolant in reservoir ?

Put in a shutoff valve and topped everything off. Been good for a couple years now.
