Been doing some reading that suggested a battery going bad could cause some strange things to happen, and I didn't know how old the battery was, but the guy I bought it from had it a bit over 3 years and never changed it. So, I figured, why not go ahead and replace the battery. So I did.

Fast forward to today. The car has sat since Saturday, it's Wednesday. Got in and cranked up to run an errand. First 3 to 5 minutes the car was cranked, the radio did that same on for 10 seconds off for 3-5 seconds. Then after that 3 to 5 minutes, came on and stayed on...

What the hell is happening? Any ideas. 2010 SS A/T, 57K miles. No mods other than resinator removed as far as I can tell.

Thank you... Do you have the part number or best place to shop. Looked on Ebay and see so many different thing, figured I would ask before I tore into the dash to figure it out since clearly you have gone down that road.

My radio, screen, fan, blinker sound, climate control indicator lights all started to go in and out. I checked everything I could and finally took it to the dealer. After some diagnostic trial and error, they are saying it is the radio control head. As of today, I’m not sure if I’m going to approve the $1,000 repair because they don’t guarantee it and they said they can’t return the part if they’re wrong, or GM is wrong because they are utilizing GM support. I didn’t check those ground wires mentioned. By the way, I read that white wire to cut has something to do with the four way flashers. Anyway, if GM doesn’t kick in with some cost sharing, which I don’t have a lot of hope in, I have the option of buying a replacement head and doing the work myself. I saw a company sells a “PAC” replacement. Any thoughts on my dilemma?

Dealer replaced my radio/HVAC control head. They’ve been doing diagnostics with GM tech assistance. Didn’t solve the problem. Now they say I need to replace the radio. This electronics stuff is a nightmare and GM and the dealers don’t know how to diagnose the problem.

Cleaned bolts, checked fuses. Dealer is in contact with Chevrolet’s technical assistance center. They thought it was the alternator spiking, then they thought it was the radio/HVAC control head. When none of that worked (I won’t get into cost and sharing the same) they said the radio needs to be replaced. I removed the radio fuse so I didn’t have the radio going on and off and speaker crackling. When I did that, the HVAC controls and blinker sounds worked fine without going on and off.
Update: I replaced the radio fuse with no noticeable change. But did notice that when I use the accessory mode, and even the run mode, without the engine running, everything works fine: radio, HVAC, blinker sounds. When I start the engine, the problems start: radio, HVAC, indicator lights going on an off, speakers crackling. I informed the dealership of my findings and am waiting for a response. (I didn’t OK the radio replacement yet.) Also waiting for a response from Chevrolet after again escalating. I tried to speak with the Chevrolet technical assistance center, but I can’t. They only communicate with the dealer.
I also experimented with removing the display fuse. Problems still existed, but you can’t control anything at the display: radio and HVAC, and no indicator lights illuminate.

As I mentioned in the other thread I had the same problem and I replaced the radio not the control unit (or faceplate), that gets reused. Not hard to do yourself or with a friend who is versed in car stereo installation. It sounds like your dealer is not up to speed on troubleshooting our "older" vehicles.

My radio/ HVAC has been going in and out, speakers cracking, etc. When I pull the fuse for the radio, the HVAC fan and indicator lights work fine, although no display so I have no visual. The dealer has been working with Chevy engineering and to make a long story short, the alternator spiking or the radio/HVAC control head we’re not the problem. Now the engineers are telling the dealer to swap out the radio. Problem is, other than me not accepting just changing parts, I discovered that when the ignition is on such as the accessory position and the engine isn’t running everything, including the radio, works fine. So I’m really interested in these ground wires. Can you send a picture or description of what this heat shield looks like so I can spot it.

And I’ll also follow up on ariZona’s reply. When you replaced the radio, did you have to have the dealer reprogram to cynic it? Thanks.

Did it myself. Unfortunately it was so easy I don't remember the exact procedure but keep in mind I am NOT very tech savvy. 😕

I found the heat shield, but didn’t remove it yet. Some of the bolts look challenging like the one in the firewall. Maybe I can reach it from underneath. So far I just cleaned one external to the heat shield.
