I'd love to see a seventh generation Camaro so "not fully dead" gives me hope. That being said if the car couldn't make it on the alpha platform being produced alongside CT4 and CT5 I'm not sure I'd want to see what gm gives us.

I hope GM changes their mind because I really would like to purchase a replacement for my ZLE one day, as long as its gas powered. I dont believe they will see the light until Ford and Stelantis have enjoyed several years running away with sales.

The comments in that article were interesting and I think they show that people still want ICE vehicles.

Can I ask what your issue is with the Mustang? I know they don’t have a supercharged variant yet but I’m sure they’ll have a GT500 out soon.

I am really considering getting a dark horse when my warranty is up.

Posting here what I posted in another thread where this article came up. The blue is a quote from the article.

With support from some GM executives, the group’s purpose was to make a business case for the seventh generation of the iconic muscle car. A plan was generated and compiled, but upon being presented to decision makers, the proposal was “blown apart” due to the business case not being strong enough.

In essence, the plan’s key business-level performance targets – including sales volume forecast and profitability figures – were not met to green light the next-gen Camaro.

One source tells us that GM is still kicking the project around. “It’s still in play, but the light at the end of the tunnel is now dimmer,” the source tells us.

During my time in Product Portfolio Planning we had a name for this. The name was "Thursday". That was the day for the Product Development Review where every vehicle program goes for...well...review. And approval. Because of my position at the time I was in every one of those meetings for several years. Sat right behind Bob Lutz. He sat next to my boss and I had to be present to support my boss and take on any powertrain related assignments. I personally sat through 2 meetings where C6 was killed due to an insufficient business case. And yet, here we are seeing C8 on the street.

FWIW, the only vehicles I ever saw NOT get killed at some point in the product development process, or at least sent back to sharpen the pencils a bit, were full sized truck programs. Shocker. And even then there were specialty trims that did get killed. Like the 6-door Suburban and V10 trucks and utes.
...

I had also posted several months ago in that thread or another one that someone who is in a position to know told me that they saw two Camaro clay models. One had a tailpipe. In order for Design to create a clay, it is either a project with some serious consideration or a skunkworks with some heavyweight executive champion pushing it. This could be the project that the article is referring to.

Man, I just hope for one last ride. There’s a lot of junk used Camaros on the market right now.

Actually, yes they do, I am not going to get in to all that here but look it up. It is a factory backed 810HP GT with a warranty. And it is pretty damn fast. And still in production.

I actually saw that earlier today and it has my interest. Just wish it was the complete package like the GT500/ZL1 but then again if it was it would probably be out of my price range.

If the ICE Mustang was selling more than 60k to 80k units there might be a business case for Gen 7.

But Ford is selling less than 40k and the Gen 6 went out with really flat sales.

Sorry folks but the ICE Camaro is dead.

I would love to be wrong on this.

I do think GM doesn’t want to hurt C8 sales with a Camaro. Which is dumb C8 is a supercar.

Although,(motor1) Ford did announce that they are satisfied with coupe sales as they are still struggling with supply chain issues.

I saw my first Dark Horse on the road the other day and it definitely does not suck. I would gladly own one.

The brutal fact is that traditional muscle car markets have all but dried up. Most of us on this board would likely buy a new Camaro in a heartbeat, but we are an aging breed. Outside of this board and the Mustang boards performance customers are shifting to more purpose focused sports cars, luxury performance sedans, or <cough>EVs</cough> for “fast car” stuff. Things like Hyundai N series cars, Toyota GR series vehicles, BMW M series, Model 3 Performance.

As long as Ford has other similar latforms in production that allows the Mustang platform to “lunch” off of some of the similar components, Mustang continues to make sense. Even more so because it still brings people into the showroom. Even if those people buy something other than a Mustang (even a Mach E) then Mustang has done its job. In theory Camaro should have been in the same position for a Camaro 7, as long as Alpha is in place (CT4/CT5) but GM seems to have followed a different path there. Camaro ended sooner than I thought it would and CT4/CT5 is hanging on longer than I expected. GM doesn’t need Camaro bring people in the door. Corvette does that just fine.

Basically, I'm a GM fan and have been all my life. I have to say though, GM is working overtime changing that! My only complaint about the mustang is weight. If a new Camaro was as heavy, I'd feel the same way.

On another note, I'm dissatisfied with my Equinox. My wifes Acadia no longer has a V6 option. Chances are high that these both will be replaced with non GM products within 3 years. I'll eventually buy a mustang if GM doesnt offer a competitor.
