Front Wheel Strut Clearance

Hi guys, I am trying to run a 20x10 +35 square setup of ZL1 replicas on my 2011. I read a bunch of old posts about this setup and I understand it fits but is close. I fit my front wheel today and there is about 3/8" clearance from the wheel lip to the strut. Is this too close? Obviously it will be less with the tire mounted. Should I use a 3mm spacer just for some insurance? I mocked it up with washers and that allows for my fingers to fit between the rim and strut. This still allows for the rim to properly engage the hub. Picture attached of clearance with no spacer.

are they hubcentric or lugcentric wheels? if hubcentric, you will need a new center ring hub and that may help. What size Tires also? are you stretching them to fit?

The wheels are hub centric. With a 1/8 spacer the hub still engages the wheel enough to get past the chamfer. I am running 285 Firehawks so no stretching, in my experience the Firehawk has a pretty straight/square sidewall with no bulging.

I realize now looking at the photo the tire actually gains clearance since the strut angle points away from the wheel. Also this was taken with the suspension hanging at maximum extension, on the ground there is probably more space. I will get a tire mounted to get a better idea of the fit.

Any update on getting the 285 tires mounted? Are they 285/35R20's in the front? If I recall correctly, the ZL1 wheels should be staggered with a 305/35 tire in the rear, right?

Also, which ZL1 reps are you running? The 12-13 ZL1 5 spoke wheels, or the 14-15 10 spoke wheels? The 14-15 ZL1 10 spoke wheels are identical to the wheels that come on the SS 1LE, which come squared all around, with 285/35R20 tires I think. Not sure if the 14-15 ZL1 wheels are staggered or not, in that case.. I might go double check.

Yes I have been driving the car for a few weeks now with no issues. On the ground I have about 5/16" clearance in the tightest spot between the tire and strut. This is with no spacer. I may still put a 3mm spacer in just for the slightly more aggressive look. The wheels I bought are the 10 spoke ZL1/1LE replicas, I went with OECreations PR208 in satin black. OEM lug nuts also work with these wheels.
