2010 SS Clutch Spring Removed HELP
Hello, I am making a post for a buddy of mine who just purchased a 10 ss 6 speed car. Previous owner pulled the clutch spring out for who knows what and it pops/clicks when depressing it. We are trying to find a clutch spring to put in there but hes not wanting to spend 100+$ on a aftermarket. Does anybody have a factory clutch spring laying around they would sell us?

As I recall our cars did not come with a Clutch Pedal Return Spring. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

People removed these because they thought it was a fix for the clutch pedal sticking during a hard launch. I dont think there's an actual clutch spring you can buy im pretty sure its the entire pedal assembly. LPE (lingenfelter performance engineering) makes a return spring thats supposed to be used in addition to the OE spring.

The factory spring IS a two way setup that acts as both a return and an assist depending on the pedal position - this is why the pedal has that very unnatural non-linear feel as you depress it. That's the reason people remove those springs and replace with a simple, linear return spring.
I was never going to pay Lingenfelter $80 for a $5 spring, so I simply bought one at the local hardware store and rigged it up. Since then I've actually switched to a small bungy cord because that's even smoother. I don't think I have a picture of that one.

Gentlemen you are the dudes. I knew they had a short black odd looking spring and my buddies is gone. We will just rig up a spring like you did. Thank you for the picture that is huge. One last question for the group, what would cause a clunking/clicking sound in the pedal assembly? Could a bushing go bad cause this? Its just in the pedal because you can feel it.

I made a thread on this, where I too also ran a DIY clutch return spring, after removing the factory one. However, I only did this because the factory OEM clutch pedal spring was super tough; and it essentially made it feel like a false super heavy clutch. The DIY clutch return spring method actually works fairly well, using a mild to moderate strength spring, and a metal worm gear hose clamp. Depending on the quality of either the spring or hose clamp that you're using, either can deform; but I was able to find various things to make my personal setup work. But anyways, I ended up trying out a prototype lighter spring that another user made, based on the original, OEM clutch pedal return spring design. I had seen the manual C6 Corvette guys run the lighter, OEM manual C5 Corvette clutch pedal return springs, on their C6's. This was the same concept, except the 5th gen Camaro SS prototype spring was a lot lighter, but used extra loops to compensate (someone who knows more about physics, chime in pls?). I was originally against trying to run the same/similar style OEM pedal spring, because it also worked to help keep the pedal down (to aid with clutch pedal leg fatigue?). In a case where your clutch hydraulics crap out(tends to be a common GM manual issue?), you won't constantly have to keep lifting the clutch pedal back up off of the floorboard. |

I'm using one of those lighter springs, and you can tell a difference. Better clutch feel. Not a big enough difference to move mountains, but I like it.

I am trying to check out cheap fixes for him vs the lingenfelter spring kit. Also SC Brothers here. We are up in Anderson. Let me know if you ever go to Camaro fest we can meet up in Bowling Green!
