17.6 billion is NASA's budget, the total US budget is 2,979,000,000,000 (or, 00.5%) of the budget. I'm willing to spend 1/2 of 1% of my taxes on this-at least it's visible instead of some pork barrel project that gets hidden on the 1000th page of some bill. It's one of those arguments that's fairly useless as I know I'll never convince those against NASA and those against NASA will never convince me.

While you've been joking, they've been tracking your IP. Black suburbans got nothin' on the Starbucks Evil Empire (SBEE).

I respect your opinion on this.
But if you can clear this up or give me a fact/example of this, I may see your point - "so many minor advancements have been achieved that make our lives so easier due to research funded by nasa."
Thanks!

I hate to say this but engineers and researchers are not just bound to saving lives. I for one don't feel that NASA is a waste of money at all (I wouldn't be studying Aerospace Engineering if I wanted to save lives in the first place). There will come a time where humans living on other planets/space colonies will be possible and needed (I even heard about talks about space elevators).

Surprised by the negativity on this subject. Exploration is (IMO) the essence of mankind. If we didn't explore where would we be today. Or are you just saying we've explored enough and we should just stop now?

Don't get me wrong, I respect your opinions, just surprised a little.

And seriously, just google the things that have resulted from space exploration. Think of things that you use every day that are a result of space exploration. And just think of how happy X will be driving a Camaro on the moon.
Don't really want too research any more. Nothin I can do to change it. AT ALL. It's not like we can vote on it.

Come on dude. NASA IS funded. We fund them. They can't 'fund' anyone.

And better research would be Cancer to name just one.

THIS THREAD IS ABOUT MOON WATER. The rest of our ridiculous National Budget is another topic. I feel much stronger about that crap.

Yea I started this so I could be enlightened by the better half of society about how NASA doesn't save lives and it's a gigantic waste of less than 1% of our tax dollars. Good point.

So then you're one of those guys who looks passed and glosses over a waste of money because it's 'not that much'.

Wait? Dude? Is your real name Harry Reid? lmao

mmmm....ok, but if we never got off the earth back in the 60's (because of space exploration), we wouldn't currently be lancing satellites.

BTW...This thread sucks.

The first trip out of the atmosphere was unmanned. We could launch satellites.

We need NASA to work on an aftermatket EMT service since we really on them so much.

I don't consider it a waste of money. Some of us appreciate intellectual expansion, which is the main goal of NASA.
