Geico Rant

I got a letter in the mail yesterday stating my registration was going to expire because they didn't have proof of insurance.

So I call geico and tell them and they say there going to send the form in and the guys says please give me your vin number so I do 2g1ft1ew1a9114402 and the geico guy goes oh we had your vin number in are system wrong we have it as 2G1FP1EW1A9114402 so your rates are going to increase now.

It pissed me off and im thinking of getting out of geico. Im gonna start getting some quotes I think my policy is going to expire soon anyway.

Just don't go with Nationwide, they're worse.

I will never touch Progressive again. Years ago they dropped my coverage without telling me claiming that my license had expired, which it hadn't (even got the dmv paperwork to prove there was no lapse). Then to start covering me again they wanted to raise my rates to 5X what they had been.

I now have Ameriprise (for home and Cars) and have been really happy.

A few pointers...

Go with a local in state company that IS NOT nationwide. You will pay a premium in a catastrophic claims premium for Allstate, State Farm, Geico, etc because they have to cover losses nationally. I am luck in Michigan because we have relatively low losses due to fire, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes.

Get a second car.

Rate as pleasure use. If you can, do not insure for more than you drive. I have mine insured for $69 a month summer, $28 winter with AAA of Michigan with a $500 C/C deductible and 7500 miles a year.

Add your house to your homeowners.

Insure your credit score is up there.

My $180k home is $429 a year and my 2SS is $613 a year. Harley is $350 year and 04 Cavalier $512 year. House is a 1k deductible and the Cavalier, Harley and Camaro $500.

I have Allstate.

My agent said I would have to pay just 10 bucks more a month.

I have my house, my Mom's auto, and my other car from Allstate and receive a multi-item and a good driver discount.

try USAA, their loan rates are not great but for car insurance they really have good deals. I think they have opened it up now so that you can get in by being referred by an existing member instead of having to have armed forces relative.

I've had State Farm for 34 years, have had excellent service all that time, my premium went up $10.00 monthly for Camaro from an HHR.....

The Camaro costs 37.50 a month for full coverage minus $500.00 deductable...
