Guys who had striped painted quick question

Did you have the bodyshop use basecoat/clear on the stripes?

Did you have them clearcoat the entire panel so you cant feel the edge of the stripes?

There are a couple of ways you can do this. The major difference is expense. Either way, the body shop needs to apply several coats of clear above the stripe to make it look right. Stripes just painted on top with a good basecoat/clearcoat can range between $1000 and $1600 depending on where you live. You will be able to feel the stripes on this type of job. This is what I did and I like it. The transition is noticable to the touch, but I don't mind.

A body shop can make the stripe appear like part of the original paint job (no transition you can feel) by taking the original paint down to primer and wet sanding the transitions before they clearcoat, but that's a much more expensive job. Probably in the $3k to $4k range. Just like anything else, depends what you want to spend.

Either way, paint is better than vinyl! Good luck!

Chevy dealer in Fort Walton beach does it for $500 and it base clear. you can't feel the transition edge between the stripes and body color. really good job. Suggest you search around.

you should have it clearcoated for sure or the paint will look poor in a few years in the sun spider webbing perhaps , any collision shop should be able to do it its what they do all day long and they always clearcoat and bake they have to cause of factory standards

For my 4th gen it cost me $1,000 for my stripes with clear only over the stripes. If I had them clear the entire panels, it would have cost $1,800. I was ok with being able to feel the edge to save $800.
