Just don't underestimate these cars, you will be sorry lol
Trust me I believe you there

Yeah, I want a Camaro SS, or a Corvette, or something that's RWD with a V8 more than I want any other car in the world.

But practically speaking, for affordability, cost for performance F.I. 4cyl's aren't to be underestimated...

I just gotta switch over to something that's RWD or AWD instead of FWD cause its the traction that's killin me...

Oh and just wait for SEMA, Hyundai has invested just as much $ in to advertising for the Genesis Coupe, probably just as much if not more than GM has for the Camaro...

The Camaro isn't going to be the only star at SEMA this year...

I know HKS is going to have a Hyundai Genesis equipped with their performance products there.

Man, Hyundai is doing some serious stuff with the Genesis, especially the sedan, the v8 is a very nice car. Hyundai is moving in the right direction, but they really need to either make a new higher level brand, or at the very LEAST, change that H logo. No matter what vehicles they crank out, that cheesy H is going to haunt them. I understand the cost of new dealership networks and all, but at least a revamped logo would do them well

way more than that
They say the internals are only good for ~400 hp if its the same as the one in the new Evo. So 300 to the wheels is close to the limit.

Very good point, I'm all over this subject thanks to the marketing classes I've recently taken. A few others mentioned this as well that Hyundai needs to reposition themselves as a brand to change some of those stereotypes people (unfortunately) have. It seems superficial but a new logo design is a great way for people to see that your brand is getting serious.

The Hyundai coupe may be nice and fast but I would never buy one instead of a Camaro. May be competition on the road but not in the showroom.

HYUNDAI RELEASES ADDITIONAL ENGINEERING AND FEATURE INFORMATION FOR THE ALL-NEW 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE

Genesis Coupe Delivers an Estimated 30 MPG

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 30, 2008 – Hyundai released additional engineering and feature information for the all-new 2010 Genesis Coupe today. The Genesis Coupe, and its rear-wheel drive platform-mate the Genesis sedan will make their Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show debuts next week.

"One of the program targets for the Genesis engineering team was world-class weight efficiency," said John Krafcik, vice president, Product Development and Strategic Planning, Hyundai Motor America. "When you look at the size and content of both Genesis models, you'll find we lead all our competitors in weight efficiency. We also target leadership in power-to-weight ratio. We think that's just smart strategy in today's world. It pays huge dividends in both performance and fuel economy, and that's especially important in the segments in which these cars compete."

Vehicle Engine Curb Weight (pounds) Length (inches)

Genesis Coupe 2.0-liter turbo 3303 182.3
Genesis Coupe 3.8-liter V6 3402 182.3

Both Genesis Coupe and sedan are rich in ultra-high-strength steel, leading to world-class body rigidity. The Genesis sedan is 10-12 percent stiffer in torsion than Lexus and Mercedes-Benz competitors, yet it is lighter than these benchmark sedans, and offers more interior room. At just 3,303 pounds, the Genesis Coupe 2.0T is hundreds of pounds lighter than all of its IRS-equipped rear-wheel-drive competitors, with body-bending rigidity 24 percent higher than BMW E46 M3.

Vehicle Curb Weight (lbs.) Horsepower Power-to-weight ratio

1) Genesis Coupe 3.8 3402 310 (est.) 11.0
2) BMW 335i 3571 300 11.9
3) Infiniti G37 3616 330 11.0
4) Camaro LS 3780 300 (est.) 12.6
5) Challenger 3819 250 15.3

The manual V6 ran 5.7 sec for 0-60 mph. All the preliminary 0-60 seconds, the GenCoupe got low 6 seconds because they tested with 5 full adults, because thats how the test is done in Korea.

There's also rumor that Nissan is planning on bringing back the 240SX, in which I can say if it looks good and is priced right, I'd buy it in a heart beat...

Toyota is also working on a joint venture with Subaru in bringing out a RWD & AWD sports car, but after some photos were leaked on the net it just ended up looking like a 3dr STI hatch...

So the Camaro may be having more competition in the future than you think. Especially against the Japs which you would think would be the least of the Camoro's worries...

It's certainly something to keep an eye on...400 pounds lighter with more horsepower? Plus, going by Korean pricing and depending on the currency conversion you go by, a fully loaded V6 Genesis Coupe is just a bit less than where the 2LT Camaro starts.

As far as Hyundai's image, IMHO it's only a concern if you're afraid of the badge snobs out there. Hyundai's quality has improved dramatically over the last 10 years. I loved the '01 Elantra that I used to have...I only traded it in because after a while I wasn't confident in the dealer's ability to perform general maintenance on it (and at the time, it was tough to get to another Hyundai dealer) and I needed something bigger. But it was reliable, well screwed together, and I'd certainly buy another Hyundai now that I have access to a couple of other dealers in the area. Plus, I have friends and family who own and have owned Hyundais and Kias that have performed admirably. So I'm not concerned about quality or reliability.

I still want a Camaro, but this makes for a good fallback option. Especially if I end up having to buy used, as Hyundais depreciate a lot and good deals are to be had.
