So to enthusiasts like myself who may not necessarily care for the car itself, we're happy to see that once again we could be seeing the return of affordable RWD 2+2 seater coupes, that have been absent in the U.S market for so long.

AND there's already evidence of this segment returning with news of Nissan supposedly coming back with a 240SX replacement, and news of the Toyota/Subaru RWD/AWD sports coupe. In 3-4 years we could see a large return of cars to this segment.

And the Camaro is going to be right in the middle of it and not just battling its domestic counterparts the Challenger and the Mustang, but also cars like the Genesis Coupe. Although the SS will be kicking their asses....

What about the RX-8 and 350Z? They are not under $30k by much or terribly fuel efficient but I cross-shopped them against a Mustang GT a couple years ago (didn't like any of them).

I think that Hyundai’s intent is to create a less expensive alternative to the G35/G37 and 328/335 class. Creating a more luxo and slightly slower competitor to the Camaro et al. looks like a side effect.

You are correct. The RX8 and 350Z do fit that criteria, I simply left out the 350Z because it's a two seater. But yeah the RX-8 is the only car out there next to the Mustang that fits the bill.

Brand new though both are creeping just under 30k. Which is also why I didn't mention them.

And that they are. Hyundai is also trying to kill two birds with one stone with the Genesis Coupe. Yes the V6 will be the less expensive alternative to the G35/G37 and 1 series and 3 series class.

But the turbo 4 is going to be very prominent with the tuner crowd, and younger car enthusiasts due to its affordability and performance potential, which should create some mass appeal to it.

But aside from the RX8, Mustang GT & V6, Challenger SE & R/T, and Camaro V6 & 1SS and lastly the Genesis Coupe V6 & turbo 4, up until literally a year ago only cars out there was the RX8 and Mustang & 350Z. The Chally just entered the market and the Camaro and Genesis Coupe don't arrive until 09.

So the choices in the market segment are still pretty limited if you ask me.

I've pointed out previously that the Genesis is a real competitor. It will help make Hyundai a legitimate performance manufacturer in the future. This is good for competition because it adds another company to the mix. I'm merely pointing out that it is uglier than other cars of the same caliber.

And if the Genesis V6 coupe does start out around 28k, well that's Camaro SS territory although I don't think people are going to really compare a Camaro SS to a Genesis V6 coupe...

But again we'll see in the commercials and ads who Hyundai markets the Genesis Coupe towards...

Lets get this straight.

GenCoupe 4cyl Turbo starts at 19,000 and full option will be 23,000.

Gencoupe V6 will start at 25,000 and full option will be 28,000. This including navigaton also with paddle shifts.

I believe that Camaro V6 full option also costs around 28,000, with no Navigation with less HP, TQ and Heavier.

This is direct competition of GenCoupe V6 vs Camaro V6.

I think it's great. A real step forward for Hyundai.

One problem...The people in Ulsan, South Korea (assembly plant) are not buying my company's products that are made in the USA.

Things are serious, no more one-way foreign trade for me.

USA first. Vehicle must be headquartered and/or manufactured in the USA.

Canadian and Mexican next. They buy a lot of our USA made products.

They don't actually. While we weren't looking, they have been furiously upping their game - look at the current Sonata. The Genesis coupe and sedan are the real deal.
