P0116 Code - Heat problem with Edelbrock SC

Took her out for a spin and got a message that my A/C was shut off due to high engine temp, and the engine temp gauge is all they way left (cold). OnStar ran a diag and told me I have code P0116. Anybody have any insight on this thay can share? The car is not overheating. Will this reset on its own once the car fully cools off?

How did you reset it? Did you need the dealer to do it?

From what I can tell it is The error is P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance Problem .. I hear when this happens, it will shut the temp gauge down (maybe that is why it was all the way to the left). When you installed the S/C .. did you put in a colder thermostat? Maybe there is a problem with it.

I think you can get it reset at Autozone for free ..

Same thermostat, engine temp always looked good. Another member advised that I disconnect the battery and see if it resets. Trying that right now.

I'm sure it's something simple. The Autozone idea, though, is a good one if you have one in the area. You can't reflash with the hand-held from Edelbrock? Did you get the tuner kit or something?

The battery disconnect turned it off. I'm going to drive around and see if it comes back. I'll keep a sharp eye on the temp gauge this time.

Nope, no tuner, I installed the basic kit and had it tuned at a shop.

Something similar happened to me. Cheap ass Mr Gasket TStat was opening too cool and the PCM didn't like it..Changed to a better 160 degree stat and problem solved.

Well guys, I can drive it around w/o any problem, but when I really open it up I get the P0116 code every time. I disconnected the battery and cleared it again but it looks like I will have to take it back to the tuner. I'll let you all know the outcome, just in case it happens to your ride.

I was reading the Camaro owner's manual yesterday and I read the part about overheating. Everything you described was discussed in the manual. Of course, it didn't cover the actual error code that you are getting.

I understand that sometimes our cars show error codes for no reason, but I would want to know what possible reasons can there be to legitimately trigger your particular error code now that you have a supercharger installed?

Can belt slippage cause this? A leaking injector? An unsealed injector o-ring?

Have you inspected your coolant lines to make sure they look and feel normal?

Btw, in the owner's manual it says that when you get this message it's good to pull the car over and let it idle until it cools down.

I hope nothing is seriously wrong.

Thanks for your feedback. The car is not overheating I am sure of that. I watched the temp as I floored it, it was fine (less that half way to hot) but then the error code hit. I did this twice with the same result.

I can drive all day w/o a problem if I don't push it - but what fun is that?
