Car ramps

I've read alot of "oil change" threads, but nobody is mentioning what "car ramps" they are using.

Sure, you can make your own, but by the time you buy all the right kind of lumber and the time element, you could have bought some good ramps at the local autoparts store.

What ramps are you guys using? that doesn't cause front end damage or scrapes while going up or down the ramps.

I was looking at some RHINO 8000lbs ramps which are supposed to be good for "low profile" vehicles. Which ramps you guys using? The RHINO 8000's are going for $39.99. Actually the wider ones 12000lbs might be better for the wide tires we have. The RHINO 12000 is $49.99

I have the rhino 8000lbs ramps....

They look like they won't fit under the front valance but I stick them right up under the tires and drive forward and it goes up and doesn't push them.... 1 millimeter higher and the camaro would push them... but mine work ok....

I have some 3 piece extended ramps that were sold by a Vette vendor. Main ramp is steel and the extensions are some kind of poly resin. They are supposed to clear a 68-81 Vette which is pretty low and long so they also work on the C5 Camaro. Check with the Vette vendors.

The only thing that bothers me with ramps is I have to use a mirror to prevent me from going too far on the ramp. Maybe I worry too much?

I have these exact ramps, but haven't used them with my SS yet. Do the front tires fit between the side rails? Pulling up on ramps like these is always an adventure with a manual.

I was able to use them and will probably use them again. The tires are a tight fit. I put a wall mirror on the floor beside the car so I can easily judge how far up the ramp I am. You DON'T want to drive too far and fall of the cliff. It was not all that difficult to manage with the stick but I have 30+ yrs experience so that helps. Roll up and remember to use the emergency brake along with wheel chocks on the back.

...Or just use the 4 jack stands and be done with it. I have those too.

I say bite the bullet and get race ramps. I love mine!!!!! I originally did the "build your own out of wood", while this works they are heavy as hell and a bit of a bugger to drive up because of the "steps". With the brute industries race ramps I could almost drive on them without a spotter.

Cheers

I agree, love my Race Ramps, and the roll-ups. Never used a spotter...

I got Aluminium car ramps from Discount Ramps for my cars. The thing I liked about these is that I could disconnect the ramp from the stand so that I can get under the car from all angles. Here is the link http://www.discountramps.com/car-repair-ramps.htm

It has a 12" lift, 16" wide, and comes with a 7.6 degree load angle. These are more expensive, but IMO are well worth it for what needs to be done.

The 67" low profile work great for our cars, even with OEM GFX. The smaller ones are Roll-Ups which I think are very useful - the ones under the rear tires in my pictures above.

These, in 67": http://www.discountramps.com/low_profile_car_ramp.htm
The 2-part ones look cool too, if you can afford that much more.

These are the roll-ups: http://www.discountramps.com/roll-ups.htm

Alum ones are cool, and as stated above, you can get the 2-part ones in the race ramps also. They are so light and easy to use/store. Never had any issues with them. I always put the car up on them myself.

All those ramps are only rated for 3000 lbs...

What happens when it fails and your car comes crashing down with you under it?

I guess jack stands for extra safety.
