Question Super Charger Or Twin Turbo kit

Hey guys I was thinking of upgrading my car for some more power, thinking about 550 and above. But the thing is which is better a super charger or a twin turbo kit, would like to know which one is cheaper and safer. Also would like to know where can I get these kits for good prices. Current mods on the car (CAI and a borla atak cat-back system). Would love to have all my C5 members in put in to this!!!

I was looking into this myself not too long ago and I decided I will be going with a TT setup. For not very much more, a TT setup will get you 600-650hp (at the crank) without any other modifications needed. With a supercharger, you are looking at changing other parts. Granted it is cheaper to just put a blower on there and not change any other parts but you won't get that 600-650hp. Plus a supercharger does add more stress to the crank and a TT setup is just free horsepower. I also like the sound of a TT better then a supercharger. I love hearing the blow off vale.

But with a TT setup, if you ever decide to change some internals it is just more added power.

Do both. One of the members on here that owns a GT 500 has a Hellion twin turbo kit and the factory supercharger. You of course will have to go with forged internals.

Also to note. If you do want a supercharger Edelbrock has a good setup where if you keep the car stock and have an authorized shop install it, you can purchase a full power train warranty through them.

You'll get a better response in the correct section.

Your Turbos will be a bit easier on the engine, but the super charger will give you more imediate and low end power.

Emma can tell you all about it.

I think she's become one of the resident experts. lol

What PQ said ^^^.

I was trying to make the same decision not too long ago. I went with the supercharger mostly because of the proven reliability of the maggie. Also, I do most of my driving from 0 to 80ish. That's the sc's sweet spot. In addition, I really like the sound of a car with headers. A TT car is too quiet for my taste.

If you really want >600 rwhp though, TT is probably a better option for you.

I thought after 550 drive line components should be upgraded... I saw phoenix mentioned 650 with no other modifications needed.... that is sort of misleading.... I would hate to see the OP asking about a new tranny or drive shaft in two weeks...

On the manual, yes. imo

The auto tranny seems to be standing up to around 650. THEN upgrades are a must.

a Twin Turbo car can be extremely loud if thats what one is seeking... When my TT car goes WOT, it'll wake the dead...

Either a SC or TT will be fabulous....... Don't make excuses, make horsepower!

if you want to upgrade to what buddy did..

And build a 1000hp pump gas engine....=o)

Of course yours will be with a pair of LS3 heads instead of LS7, make sure you fully CNC-port them, and buy yourself a set of hollow-stem intake and exhaust valves. Try and bring compression ratio down to somewhere around 9.6.1, perfect for your TT or SC set up. Then a put a cam in... something with some lift, and decent duration i've got 227 / 235 duration .614 / .624 lift and 112 LSA, but you do what you want. Do your self a favor and replace the rockers with a set of 1.70:1 or 1.80:1 ratio rocker arms so your stock ones don't fly apart. You can use your stock LS3 intake manifold and set of long tubes, AND A TUNE OF COURSE keep the stock TR6060 transmission in place if it's it's good enough for the ZR1 it's good enough for the camaro, use the stock differential, and put in a nice heavy clutch. It's all up to you how you want to do this... it's really just a matter of how much MONEY you have to do it the right way the first time. It's not just a matter of throwing a SC or TT on it and calling it a day, once you do one thing, it becomes something else. Spend your money once in the right places and you'll have it to play with many more years down the road.

No such thing as free horsepower..... It utilizes the exhaust pressure to spin the turbo's and thus making stronger exhaust backpressure and not as "free flowing" exhaust..... The % lost due to this is just less than the supercharger...
