Ran 14.5 last night....

I ran a 14.5....I'm on the left...went up against a friend (He had a 1967 C-10 with a 383), He ran almost the same time. Come on man..... I guess i just need to do more to my girl.

My Mods so far.......L99 with Borla X-pipe, BBK CAI....

That was my best times, I ran it 3 other times and they were 14.7, 14.6, 14.6

God that's an awful 60' time. Work on your launches and wait for some better weather. You'll be much happier on the ride home

Yeah the launch and initial times are killing you. You should be able to get at LEAST a second or more off of that time. But you did catch up to him on that 1/4 mile. Your speed was a LOT slower than I've seen most. Were you holding back?

Cooler weather helps, as does higher altitudes. But when it helps you, it also helps the other guy. What you need to work on is your response time to that green. Are you running with TC on?

I might suggest that you also go get a Dyno so you know where you stand in HP at the wheels. Will help you with future modifications and knowing how much you have, vs how much you need/want.

don't despair.

you need a tune.

i'm betting this is an fuse pull mod problem.

He is new to the racing.

Sir you need to know what your car likes. And as JS said don't hold back.....

you don't have a book under the gas pedal. ( sorry)

Really with a tune and your light mod.... a 12.9 is possible.

PULL YOUR FUSES!!!!! My car was running these times before the fuse pull too. Granted you still need to work on your launch technique and get that 60 ft time down, but I went from 9.30's to an 8.44 in the 1/8th after the fuse pull. Just sayin....

I too have an L99, and my best launch comes from taching up to about 1000-1100 RPM's at the start, with both T/C and stabilitrak OFF, and then firmly hitting the gas on the third yellow bulb. My best 60-ft so far is a 1.96 (on stock tires) and I regularly hit 2.0x's

One question on your reaction time...does the timing system use .000 or .500 for perfect??? If it is a .000, you will need to leave about 1 bulb earlier. If it is a .500, you just need to tweak your reaction time, as it's not bad for a "first timer."

I talked to a another guy there with the same car as me...He told to do this so i did.....Take traction control off, automatic shifter in M gear, left foot on the brake-right foot on the gas, rev to 1000rpm, soon as the light hits SMASH IT....So that's what I did...I had the pedal all the way down!!

Don't worry about your reaction time. Actually, don't even look at it. It has absolutely nothing to do with your pass. Your time starts Shen you trip the beam.

I guess the upside to it all is at least you're putting out a lot more speed than he is. You'll always get him in the longer run. Tuning could help you for sure, and if you browse the forums I'm sure there's a few little tweaks for you to get some more out of the car). But once you punch it, don't stop. Manuals are nice because you can ride that 5th gear in higher RPMs longer. While the auto will just move to 6th gear on its own.

Drag racing is an artform. It takes a lot of skill and reaction (hand eye coordination) not to mention the ability to both shift and maneuver the vehicle (try and keep it absolutely straight with little to no movement).

I forget who it was that runs 10's (SuperchargedSS or some other such username). You might want to ask what's helped him because he's got it down pretty well.

This guy is even claiming 9's:

With all the sliding over the track you'd think he could shave a second off of that time. I'd be curious to see the setup on that and if that time is accurate.

Not from what I've read here. Higher altitudes with thinner air is supposed to have less restriction (not to mention lack humidity which lower states have). It's why a baseball can fly further when hit here (where I live at over 5,000 feet above sea level).

You're more than welcome to correct me with some cited sources.

Air restriction certainly doesnt help things but the thinner air will reduce your power and negate any benefit you might get from that. Best power is low humidity at sea level.
