I too have an L99, and my best launch comes from taching up to about 1000-1100 RPM's at the start, with both T/C and stabilitrak OFF, and then firmly hitting the gas on the third yellow bulb. My best 60-ft so far is a 1.96 (on stock tires) and I regularly hit 2.0x's

One question on your reaction time...does the timing system use .000 or .500 for perfect??? If it is a .000, you will need to leave about 1 bulb earlier. If it is a .500, you just need to tweak your reaction time, as it's not bad for a "first timer."

This is the best launch advice you will ever get. Shut both the T/C off and the stabiltrak. You can do this by holding the button in front of the shifter down for like 10 seconds. Long enough to see two lights pop up on the instument cluster. Roll the first beam. When you trip the second light bring the r's up to about 1050 rpm/s then mash it at the green. Also take the air pressure down to 20. There is a pump in the trunk so you can fill them back up before you leave. This alone will pick you up at least 4 tenths. A 1.95 60's is pretty easy doing it this way. And that shoulf get you near a second overall, maybe .8. Then wait for the colder denser air to gain even more. Go to dragtimes and go into tools. Then eneter you info and see what the corrected time would have been in better air.


And again on the reaction time. Don't listen to anything anyone tells you about it. Most people don't have a clue. It plays No roll in your time. You can pick you favorite radio station and then leave. IT DOESN't MATTER! Some people just don't get it. At as test and tune your time starts when you trip the beam.

more air gets to the engine ya , but the car has more air to get threw... its kind of a positive and negative ..

You want to run your car at sea level. It will run the best times, and make the most power, at sea level. As long as the weather isn't retarded.

Mine is a stick but still my 2nd pass was a 13.51 and i had a crappy 2.20 60ft time. his mph is way off, my car bone stock was going 108mph
funny thing is when i dynoed it the numbers were on the low side bone stock. Is he running that car on 93? even a bad launch cant hurt the mph that bad.

Not really.... You still have the same boundary layer of air on the car.... and it will leave the same trails in the wind tunnel no matter what....

The more dense the air, the more air coming in, the more power you will make.....

Similar to athletics.... Run a mile at sea level... and then run a mile up in Denver.....

Less dense air has less oxygen.... thus making performance suffer...........

Ah Tallboy is correct.

this should be common knowledge.

NA cars don't do well at altitude....Less oxygen molecules per square centimeters... you could easily lose more than 1 second in denver.

Forced induction cars facing non forced induction fair much better .

Best conditons are

Sea level or below
59 to 69 degrees ( too cold and you won't hook up well)
Good track prep, tires warmed up
Low humidity


best to go to a sea level track when the day is clear and dry a warm day..then wait for the night...the air is cool but the track is still warm.



that is the condition personal best are done in..

90 day cooled to 72.....dry air....bam


A/F is usually 14.7 to 1 or in FI 12 to 1 thats 14.7- 12 parts Air to 1 part fuel

Tallboy they forget that pedal on the right is not a gas pedal....it opens your throttle body.
its an air pedal,,and your engine burns oxygen and gas...and is more of an Air pump.


don't argue..... aerodynamics??? thin air is inconsequential in cars tha only make it to 110 in the 1/4

thats were the logrythmic curve starts to crank upward and more hp is need to overcom drag.

Your times will definitely improve with experience. The important thing is you've done what most Camaro owners haven't... placed it on the line and taken it down the track. AND you've posted your results publicly.

Well done! Next step, more experience and getting a better feel for that beast you're driving. There are a lot of great tips on this forum, including ones being offered in this thread! Ignore the criticism and listen to the advice.

Actually, the baseball flies farther because it's further away from the center of the earth. Gravitational force is relative to distance squared, assuming constant masses. You'll have a slower descent towards Earth if you fall off Mt. Everest as opposed to falling off a 10 story building below sea level.

I took AP Physics last year. It ruined me.

But, that's besides the point. I've seen a few members at higher altitudes complaining of decreased performance. I think one guy took his Camaro to California from Utah and noticed the performance increase at sea level.

Your 60' time tells all...fix that launch and you'll easily get down to a 13.9, doing everything else exactly the same as you're doing now, with no additional mods.

Just curious...what was the track DA that day? Your car should have been a little faster than that.
