It always amazes me why some buy these 40k hot rods, and then dont' want to feed them properly. Then they bitch about poor performance.I guess you can't fix stupid.

To all those who didn't read the thread.... he's asking what is the lowest that can be put in the camaro. The answer is 87 as per the GM manual.

Because 89 is made by mixing 87 with either the 91 or 93. Duh.

my dealer says i should be ok with Shell 89 octane, but there's a big price increase for 91 octane in SE CT. trying to find out if anyone else is using 89 octane, thanks

My Bee gets 93 NO ETHANOL! If you put 87, from what I've read, your going to have to do a fuse pull to reset your computer when you decide you want it to run right again.

The 2011 mustang 5.0 switches fuel maps automatically from 93 to 87 and back with no fuss or issues depending on what gas is detected. I'm not sure why this is such a big deal for GM.

That's because 89 is nothing more then a blend of 87 and 91/93.

No coincidence. They blend 87 and 93 to make 89. The refinory only makes 2 grades, 87 and 93. Some stations do their own blending so they only need 2 storage tanks. I load the trucks and when we give them 89 octane we do the blending.

You got a V8 for the power. Put at least 91 in it to get that power. Why spend the extra money on the V8 and then save a little on 87 octane when it will run more like a V6? Get the 91 or 93. I am not demeaning the V6s btw, they are great cars. But if you spring for the V8, use it properly!

I always put 93 in my 2SS.

You must me looking at the Chinese export version of the owners manual. Heres what mine says for 6.2L (manual or auto):

...
You can also use
regular unleaded gasoline rated at
87 octane or higher, but the vehicle’s
acceleration could be slightly
reduced, and you might notice a
slight audible knocking noise,
commonly referred to as a spark
knock. If the octane is less than 87,
you might notice a heavy knocking
noise when you drive. If this occurs,
use a gasoline rated at 87 octane
or higher as soon as possible.

...

So, have we established what the lowest ocatane is? Can we stop posting now?

going w/ 91 octane

the manual says 91 or higher octane, and after reading thru this thread, it makes even more sense to stay away from anything lower ... thanks for the feedback
